We are interested in hearing from you if you have a knack for research and administration, are a problem-solver, and are enthusiastic about being a part of a varied and close-knit team that produces pertinent policy research and debate on the politics and international relations of African countries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the organisation of events, publications, and the dissemination of research findings and outputs while reporting to a Senior Research Fellow and collaborating closely with the Projects Manager and the Deputy Director of the Africa Programme on a number of Africa Programme projects. They will also provide editorial support to a number of research teams within the Africa Programme. There will be some travel necessary, even on certain weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery
    • Help with research by completing background research and fact-checking publications and research outcomes.
    • Be a part of the creation of charts, illustrations, and datasets for literature reviews.
    • Support publications with editing and referencing.
    • Take part in field research as your projects permit.
    • Encourage the publishing of research results.
    • Observe Chatham House and funders’ guidelines for administrative and reporting needs.
  • People
    • When necessary, offer logistical help, especially for foreign travel.
    • Support the team and outside participants during events on the spot.
    • Serve as the meeting and event’s rapporteur and create meeting reports.
  • Strategy
    • Participate in the creation of research project designs.
    • Assistance with conference planning, roundtable and panel discussion organisation, and content creation.
    • Maintain accounting records and track budget income and expenditure for selected projects to ensure compliance with finance procedures.

  • Pay: £28,000 annually.

  • Knowledge of assisting with international event organisation.

  • Ability to balance various tasks, set priorities appropriately, and remain composed under pressure.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal abilities as well as the ability to interact successfully with a variety of people at all levels.
  • Ability to engage and manoeuvre amongst various groups and civilizations.
    a knowledge of and exposure to less developed situations, such as through travel and/or employment, etc.
    Experience working for an academic or research institution, NGO, foundation, or think tank is preferred.
