Reduced financial instability for artist-led groups may be a major driver of long-term systemic change, the development of stronger communities, and beneficial effects across the arts, which is an essential lesson to be learned. These findings have led them to provide six unrestricted grants to grassroots organisations that are underfunded and have community-driven methods to leveraging the arts for social change, especially those that help rising artists from underrepresented or marginalised groups.

Donation Amount

  • Each grant is worth €25 000 per year, and each group will receive a total of €50 000 over a two-year period beginning in December 2023. They are meant to assist in paying operating costs or any other expenses deemed essential to successfully developing activities.
  • Access to a network of peers and mentors, as well as marketing on the social media pages of the Supporting Act Foundation and its financing partner WeTransfer, are all examples of non-financial support that will be provided.

Eligibility

  • If your organisation is chosen to get a grant, they will need documentation to prove that it is:
  • Between 2018 and 2022, you must have a fiscal sponsor who is a registered non-profit in one of the following countries: the Netherlands, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, or Italy.
  • Able to give a bank account number in one of the above-mentioned nations in the name of the organisation or of a fiscal sponsor.
  • Running with yearly operational costs in the current fiscal year (2023) not exceeding €125 000 / £110 000.
  • Underfunding, according to their definition, occurs when an organization’s annual revenue in 2022 is less than its annual operating expenses, placing an undue burden on volunteer or in-kind labour or unpaid employment.
  • Led by individuals who self-identify as artist(s) or who use the arts into their strategy.
  • Being able to offer publicly accessible proof that at least one project was carried out in 2022 using a community-driven approach to issues relating to the use of arts for social change.
  • An independent panel of artists and specialists, including representatives of the grantees from the previous year, will evaluate eligible applications on the basis of financial need and the social importance of each organization’s work and approach.
