Young Canadians can acquire experience and skills in the workplace through Young Canada Works (YCW). | Students and Graduate Internships by Young Canada works

Students and graduates can put their talents to the test, develop professional equity, earn money, and start along the proper career path through job and internship programs. Approximately 2,300 jobs in the areas of official languages, heritage, the arts, and culture are produced annually by the YCW program.

There are two parts to the YCW program:

Are you a student currently enrolled in a university, college, CEGEP, or high school seeking a temporary position related to your studies? A job can provide benefits beyond merely financial gain. Two employmen
t programs provided by YCW can assist students in:

gain useful work experience and skills; travel to and explore new areas of Canada; and make money.
YCW offers two internship opportunities to students:

Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations (YCWHO)

YCWHO provides students with employment opportunities with Canadian organizations that have a heritage mandate, and it lasts for six to sixteen weeks. For example, students may learn new skills in the preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage, or they may arrange leisure or cultural projects in a heritage group.

Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages

YCWBOL lasts for six to sixteen weeks. Students can apply for jobs with organizations that hold events in both of the official languages. Students can advance their second language proficiency while gaining real-world work experience.

Internship programs

Are you looking for an internship in your subject of study, either in Canada or overseas? College or university graduates who are unemployed or underemployed are eligible to apply for internships through Young Canada Works (YCW). YCW internship participation can assist graduates in:

  • improve their skills through a career-related experience;
  • establish contacts in the industry related to their field of study; and
  • expand their career options by working in Canada or abroad.

YCW sponsors two internship programs for graduates:

Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH)

YCWBCH offers several types of internships, giving graduates the opportunity to work with organizations that have a heritage mandate. Internships range from 4 to 12 months.

Young Canada Works at Building Careers in English and French (YCWBCEF)

This program offers 4 to 12 months paid internships:

  • in Canada that meet the labour market needs in linguistic duality and where workforce shortages are anticipated in official-language minority communities; and
  • in Canada to staff positions in official-language minority community media (radios and newspapers).

How to apply

To apply, students are required to:

  • visit the Young Canada Works login page;
  • create an account by clicking on the “Sign up” link, then complete and submit a candidate profile;
  • browse job opportunities via the “Search for a job” link in their account; and
  • express their interest in a position by clicking on the job title and then on “Express interest in this job”.
