Accountabilities

The Training Assistant will do the following tasks within the scope of their authority:

  • Organize and plan every logistical detail of the many training programs that are taught by consultants, trainers, or outside training providers.
  • Help with the yearly evaluation of the clients’ training needs; communicate with participants, external partners, training providers, and training focal points across the company; plan trips; create training materials; and offer on-site assistance.
  • Create draft terms of reference, submit purchase requests, compile feedback from training, and make sure bills are accurate.
  • Keep an eye on and evaluate the budget and spending reports for different training sessions; communicate with different counterparts regarding purchase requests, bills, and reclassifications; provide advice on the most economical ways to conduct training sessions.
  • Assist with conference planning administratively and logistically.
  • Provide assistance to other General Service employees in the Training department by revising and proofreading documents and offering advice.
  • Participate in the creation, implementation, and assessment of training and development initiatives for RSCE Client Missions. These programs cover a wide range of topics, including as planning, communication skills, leadership and management, safety and security, induction training, and substantive and technical training.
  • Support the creation of specialized training programs to address the particular operational and staff development needs of the mission, as well as the systems or procedures for informing mission personnel about opportunities for training and development. With learning management systems and/or automated applications, support the planning and execution of a range of training and learning activities administratively and logistically. Inform staff employees on the RSCE’s procedures and learning opportunities.
  • Gather, compile, and preserve statistical information about training activities, especially with the use of automated tools and platforms.
  • Conduct research on a variety of training-related topics, and help with note-taking and report preparation. In order to guarantee that integrated training is created and provided to satisfy cross-cutting needs, coordinate with military and UN police training personnel in the Client Mission. Prepare written answers to questions about topics pertaining to training.
  • carry out additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Instruction

  • A high school degree or its equivalent is necessary.

Experience at Work

It is necessary to have at least five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in the design, delivery, and/or evaluation of training courses, as well as in adjacent fields including determining training needs and developing training plans. Candidates with a first-level degree or higher are exempt from the minimum year of relevant experience requirement, which is now three (3) years. Experience working in a war or post-conflict situation in an international organization or non-governmental organization equivalent to the United Nations Common System field operation (including peacekeeping, political missions, and UN agencies, money, and programs) is desirable. It is desirable to have prior experience providing training for adults. It is preferred if you have prior experience working in an international or multicultural workplace. It is preferred to have shared service center experience. It is preferable to have technical expertise in the creation and delivery of adult learning opportunities as well as adult training programs.

Spoken Words

  • The United Nations Secretariat operates in two languages: French and English. English proficiency is necessary for the advertised position. It is desirable to know another official language of the UN.
