In order to support initiatives that use technology, space design, performance, and other artistic components to create immersive experiences that challenge perceptions, elicit emotions, and foster connections, the Goethe-Institut Tanzania is excited to announce an open call for project proposals that push the boundaries of immersive art.

They are looking for original and creative concepts that produce transformative, multimodal experiences that obfuscate the boundaries between art, audience, and setting.

They exhort candidates to think imaginatively, to embrace risk-taking, and to think about the accessibility and inclusion of their initiatives.

Proposals

  • Within this open call, proposals could be for:
  • Installations created specifically for a location, taking into account the architecture, history, and cultural value of the area, in order to transform physical areas into immersive worlds. To captivate and transport viewers, these installations may include video components, acoustics, lighting, and interactive features.
  • Initiatives that involve more than one sense, such as sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell, in order to produce immersive experiences that go beyond the visual sphere are known as sensory experiences. These initiatives may investigate haptic technologies, synesthetic methods, or multisensory storytelling.
  • Proposals that make use of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) technologies to build interactive environments, transformative experiences, or immersive tales. The physical and digital worlds can be combined in these initiatives, providing participants with fresh viewpoints and immersive storytelling.
  • Projects that incorporate live performances, theatre, dance, or interactive experiences to produce immersive narratives and stimulating interactions are referred to as performance-based immersive art. These performances may encourage audience participation, obfuscate the distinction between performer and audience, and encourage spectators to take an active role in the creative process.
  • Narrative Experiments and Immersive Storytelling: Projects that use immersive approaches to investigate novel forms of storytelling, such as interactive narratives, transmedia works, or nonlinear storytelling. These initiatives can use technology, rules of game design, or interactive components to produce engrossing and emotionally impactful experiences.

Financial Details

  • The money for chosen projects might reach 7 million Tanzanian shillings, which covers the honorarium, production costs, and marketing expenses.
  • For a limited number of initiatives, the Goethe-Institut Tanzania offers free use of their event venue in Dar es Salaam.

eligibility

  • Open to Tanzanian-based modern cultural practitioners. All academic fields are welcomed.
  • As long as at least one project partner is based in Tanzania, participation is available to regional and worldwide participants.
  • Sponsors can provide additional production funding; these should be communicated to the Goethe-Institut Tanzania programmes team.
  • We are happy to accept proposals in both Swahili and English at the Goethe-Institut Tanzania.

Criteria

  • Each proposal will be graded according to the quality of the application and the proposal submitted by the applicant. Artistic creativity, the proposal’s quality and coherence, its relevance to current discourses, and its viability are all pertinent factors to take into account.
