The grants give financing for projects that further our understanding of the effects of climate change on human health and the environment. This support is primarily concentrated on a few key aspects of how climate change affects infrastructure, agriculture, sustainable development, water quality, the environment, and human health.

Finally, using this knowledge helps to guide initiatives and policies that address climate-related issues while preserving community health and resilience.

Categories

  • This research award has two funding categories: student and open category.
  • The student prizes are given to Papua New Guineans and PNG permanent residents enrolled in master’s programmes at PNG universities as well as to local researchers and institutions of higher learning.
  • The ideal candidate will have a background in the social sciences (such as forestry, agroforestry, climate justice for women, people with disabilities, the elderly, or ecosystems), economics, and public policy.
  • Researchers, professionals, academic and higher education institutions, and PNG government organisations involved in climate change are eligible for the open category.
  • To encourage and assist research and development on climate change mainstreaming in PNG, they provide these awards. They anticipated that research and development on climate change would offer the necessary data and information for PNG to establish policies that are supported by facts.
