CONTEXT OF THE ORGANIZATION

  • Regional Bureaux (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area Offices (AOs), and Field Offices (FOs) all have positions like this. Drivers of light vehicles, trucks, vans, motorbikes, or any other sort of land transportation are required to report to the Administration Officer, Logistics Officer, or the designee. They might be given the responsibility of driving speedboats or other kinds of watercraft. The position could involve providing simple administrative support in the office or retail.

JOB OBJECTIVE

  • the efficient and secure conveyance of licensed individuals or goods.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (not exhaustive)

  • To provide safe and effective services, provide transportation for authorized persons, including basic conversational translation from/to the local language, and/or delivery of various items/commodities in accordance with allowed routing and UN safety and security rules and regulations.
  • To ensure a smooth and secure entry and arrival to the authorized destinations, greet official personnel and guests at the airport or other entry points and offer basic assistance with visa and customs requirements.
  • In order to maintain effective vehicle use and fuel consumption that supports correct accounting and cost-efficiency, the driver is responsible for accurate maintenance of the vehicle log books and daily reporting to the supervisor on mechanical state.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the assigned vehicle is kept clean, in good condition, and equipped with all necessary materials. The vehicle must also have all necessary travel authorizations and supplies, and any mechanical problems must be reported to the supervisor in order to ensure safe and effective services.
  • Follow the specified procedures and guidelines for field deliveries and/or in the event of an accident, and notify the supervisor right away of any obvious issues so they can be addressed and informed decisions on the best course of action may be made.
  • To ensure administrative support for clients, carry out standard office-related responsibilities outside of driving such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when necessary, including the delivery and pickup of various things, mailing service, and payment of office telephone and other bills.

MINIMUM STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Successful completion of secondary school. formal driving instruction and a current driver’s license or certification are required to operate the allocated car in accordance with local laws. Experience: Two or more years of experience working as a driver, ideally in a foreign country, embassy, or UN system, with a proven track record of safe driving. driving experience in a variety of truck and car makes and models, as well as other motorized vehicles like vans. Defensive driving expertise is preferred. Information & Skills:
  • understanding of traffic laws, chauffeur procedure, local waterways and highways, weather conditions, and security concerns.
  • having knowledge of other criteria, such as the vehicle’s loading capacity.
  • understanding of any applicable driving or boating laws and regulations.
  • understanding of safety regulations and tools (such fire extinguishers and other buoyant wearable safety gadgets).
  • being able to read and interpret documentation like procedure manuals, operating and maintenance guidelines, and safety regulations.
  • Basic first aid knowledge and abilities are necessary for helping in an emergency.
  • understanding and proficiency with radio, email, phone, and other applications.
  • Ability to judge a car’s mechanical condition and minimal auto repair expertise.
  • Possessing the capacity to operate with sensitivity, courtesy, and a strong feeling of responsibility for clients. Language: Level C proficiency in the language of the UN and, if different, the language of the duty station.
