The main goal of this request for proposals is to award grants to Sudanese women’s and young women’s civil society organisations working to create an environment that supports WPS commitments, increase women’s leadership in conflict resolution, and promote peacebuilding and recovery in humanitarian and conflict-affected settings.

The following WPHF Impact Areas are especially impacted by the request for proposals:
- Impact Area 1: Strengthened advocacy and oversight of civil society organisations’ compliance with WPS obligations.
- Impact Area 4: More women taking on leadership roles and participating in formal and informal peace processes, as well as putting peace treaties into action.
- Impact Area 6: Increased political engagement of women and young women in situations of peacebuilding, as well as improved socioeconomic recovery.
- This is consistent with the WPHF’s overarching objective of fostering tranquilly and gender equality in society.
- Relevant Country Context for the Request for Proposals
- Heavy violence broke out on Saturday, April 15 in Khartoum and other cities around the nation, especially in North and South Darfur, as part of a promised transition to civilian administration. Due to widespread looting and insecurity, the humanitarian efforts have been halted in many states. Women on the ground, however, instantly organised and are distributing humanitarian aid. Due to highly ingrained gender disparities that overlap with other forms of discrimination including age, ethnicity, marital status, and others, women and girls have already been disproportionately affected by the ongoing conflict and humanitarian problems before the latest outbreak of fighting. Women-led organisations, especially those run by young women, have demonstrated significant leadership in calling for peace, but they are not consistently represented in areas where decisions are made. It is crucial that local women and their organisations play a crucial role in conflict resolution given that the effects of crises and the recent outbreak of fighting in Sudan are disproportionately affecting women’s and girls’ access to services and economic activity. This will ensure that any solutions to the current needs are gender-inclusive and sustainable and that they can support themselves.
- Applications that support women and girls who experience various and interrelated kinds of discrimination, such as those who are marginalised and excluded owing to poverty, ethnicity, disability, age, geography, migrant status, HIV status, and other factors, will receive special consideration.
Funding Methods
- Funding for Institutions: Stream 1 ($2,500 to $30,000 USD)
- Aims to develop the institutional capacity of women’s rights organisations and those led by women who work on gender-specific issues in humanitarian, peace, and security contexts.
- This will help the organisations sustain themselves and have a greater impact. Those interested in applying must show how the current situation affects their institutional and financial capabilities as well as how the financing would help their organisation.
- It will provide funding for a certain number of initiatives to enhance the growth or bolstering of a CSO’s institutional capability. This funding stream’s objective IS NOT to support programmatic endeavours.
- Stream 2 Programmatic Funding ($30,000 to $200,000 USD)
- This funding source will support initiatives that have as their primary goal the funding of programming initiatives that are in line with the impact areas.
Location and duration of the scope
- In Sudan, the WPHF will provide funding for eligible projects with a focus on the four states of Gedaref, Gezira, Sennar, and White Nile.
- Projects with a global scope or those that fall outside the geographic focus won’t be considered.
- CSOs may submit applications for up to two years (24 months).

- Women’s rights, youth rights, feminist, or civil society organisations on a national, regional, or local level having a track record of working with women, young women, and girls are eligible to apply.
- Women’s Rights or Feminist Organisation: The organisation must be committed to tackling various/intersecting kinds of discrimination as well as furthering gender equality and women’s rights. This dedication must be reflected in the organization’s official purpose and vision statements. The organisation must work to change the underlying drivers, processes, and structures, such as sexism and gendered power relations.
- Women-Led Organisation: The organization’s director or CEO must be a woman.
- Organisation That Is “Youth Focused”: In order for an organisation to be deemed “youth focused,” its fundamental mission and vision must centre on promoting the social, economic, and political engagement of young people of both sexes as well as combating various, intersecting types of prejudice that are directed at them. WPHF will pay special attention to youth-focused organisations that promote gender equality, help young women, and work to establish peace.
- Young Women Led Organisation: This type of organisation must be run by a young woman who is between the ages of 18 and 29.
Qualification Requirements
The WPHF DOES NOT accept applications from the following groups:
- International non-governmental organisations, governmental organisations, UN agencies, or UN Country Teams, as well as private citizens, businesses, and educational and research institutions including universities and think tanks.
