the science Perception box grant ($900 000)

Deadline: October 9th 2023 | The Science Perception Box Grant ($900 000)

Title: The Science Perception Box Grant ($900 000)
Organisation: Tiny Blue Dot Foundation (TBD)
Fund/Benefit: $900,000
Deadline: October 9th 2023
Eligible countries: All countries

The goal of the Tiny Blue Dot Foundation (TBD) is to provide financial support for thorough, empirical, solid, and statistically valid neuroscientific research on the idea of the perception box. The money from our grants will be put to use by recipients to fund research that expands people’s Perception Boxes, measures the efficacy of such techniques and interventions for neurotypicals and/or clinically defined populations, and uses the right tools to trace their neural roots. This Request for Proposals (RFP) is closely related to the programmatic statement “Expanding the Walls of Our Perception Box.”

Proposal Method

  • There will be two stages to this RFP. Anyone with the necessary qualifications and institutional connection may complete the first stage of the LOI form. The LOI forms will be examined by an internal panel. The candidates who provided the strongest LOIs will next be shortlisted to submit a full proposal.
  • In the second phase, selected candidates will complete a comprehensive proposal that will be evaluated both internally and externally. The external review will be conducted in a double-blind fashion, so the candidates’ identities should remain a secret.
  • We will rank the submissions in accordance with the feedback from the second step, and the awards will be chosen using a partially random procedure.

Financial Details

  • Tiny Blue Dot Foundation is funding a second round of major neuroscientific research projects related to “The Science of Perception Box™.” Each project will receive three consecutive years of funding for up to $900,000

Specific RFP Requirements

  • Submission of all proposals must be done in English.
  • Grants can only be given to medical schools, colleges, universities, or not-for-profit research organisations that are recognised as Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) organisations, as well as, to the extent permitted by the Internal Revenue Code, to comparable organisations that are located inside or outside the United States even if they are not recognised as Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) organisations (collectively referred to as “Applicant Institution”).
  • Applications from any nation will be taken into consideration, with the exception of those that are sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control.
  • All suggestions will be evaluated for accordance with our financial standards. When necessary, we could ask applicants for more information. The timeline for that proposal’s assessment and processing may be extended if an extended screening is necessary.
  • The Principal Investigator must be an MD, PhD, or holder of an equivalent degree who conducts clinical, applied, or basic science research at the Applicant Institution.
  • The goal of the study should be to identify or create tools and interventions that can be used to break down the boundaries of people’s perception boxes, as well as to evaluate their efficacy and monitor their impacts on individuals’ thoughts, actions, and brains.
  • This request for proposals is for human-related scientific research. Projects including philosophical inquiry, mathematical models, laboratory animals, or in vitro research will need to justify their inclusion in order to be eligible for funding.
  • All finalist applicants will be required to pre-register their plans and to offer a strategy for sharing their procedures, information, and software in accordance with the FAIR tenets.
  • By the deadline, applicants must finish a LOI on our web portal.
  • The Project Description section should not contain any details on the identity, institutional affiliation, or nation of the PIs in order to use the double-blind peer review procedure. Specifically, the Full Proposal is affected.
  • If the PI has previously received approval from the necessary regulatory bodies (such as the IRB, IACUC, or DEA) for work with human subjects, laboratory animals, or prohibited substances, or if they intend to, it should be briefly included in the Full Proposal. After the deadline for proposal submission, these approvals can still be given, but grant money won’t start flowing until they are.
  • Applicants may submit more than one application, but TBD reserves the right to accept only one. Then, we can select which to prioritise either internally or in consultation with the applicant. Researchers are allowed to work in teams on multiple proposals as long as there are no conflicts of interest.
  • Those applicants from the previous year who were not chosen may reapply as long as they meet the requirements for this round.
