In its global Scholars Programme, the Mastercard Foundation has partnered with United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa). This programme will give academically gifted African youngsters who are constrained by their financial situation, gender, location, or handicap the chance to attend top-tier universities.

In its global Scholars Programme, the Mastercard Foundation has partnered with United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa). This programme will give academically gifted African youngsters who are constrained by their financial situation, gender, location, or handicap the chance to attend top-tier universities.

Young Africans who are first-time candidates for undergraduate degrees will receive full scholarships through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme at USIU-Africa. After completing their studies, scholars will be expected to spearhead community change and contribute to significant transformation across the continent, having acquired credentials that are both globally recognised and locally relevant.

The scholarship is intended for young Africans who fit the following criteria: young men, young women, refugees or internally displaced youth, persons with disabilities, or both.

The USIU-Africa campus will provide comprehensive support for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars, which will include:

  • Fees for instruction and practical work;
  • Laptops, books, and other study resources; reasonable lodging and meals;
  • Stipend;
  • Health insurance;
  • Getting there and back from home;
  • Availability of leadership education;
  • Access to business education;
  • Support on a psychosocial level, career guidance, and mentoring;
  • Disability needs shall be fairly accommodated.

Eligibility

  • Being under the age of 29 while submitting an application.
  • Meet the Kenya Commission for University Education’s minimum entry grade requirement of C+ or higher, or its equivalent. A C+ or B- in the cluster topics of English, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry is required of applicants who are interested in taking courses at the school of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Candidates from other countries must meet the requirements.
  • For the USIU-Africa Scholars Programme, applicants must be interested in one of the following 13 undergraduate degree programmes that have been approved:
  • Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Technology, Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology, Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics are all offered by the School of Science and Technology (SST).
  • Pharmacy and Health Sciences School (SPHS) –
    • School of Communication, Cinematic and Creative Arts (SCCCA)
    • Bachelor of Pharmacy; Bachelor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics –
    • Chandaria School of Business (CSB) offers bachelor’s degrees in animation and film production and directing.
    • Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting, finance, and international business administration
    • School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS)
    • Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and international relations;
  • Has a track record of giving back to the community and serving in leadership roles.
  • Show evidence of socioeconomic deprivation.

  • The application form is available for free pickup at the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme Office, located on the second floor of the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension, or it can be downloaded from the USIU-Africa website.
  • Please read the instructions and necessary details before completing the application form.
  • Send the entire application—along with any additional supporting documents—by email, making sure to scan everything in PDF format, including the scholarship application form. You can mail your application to the following address: Programme Director, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme, United States International University – Africa, P. O. Box 14634 – 00800, Nairobi – Kenya, or drop it off at the Scholars Programme Office, which is housed in the School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension building at USIU-Africa.

THERE SHOULD ONLY BE ONE COMPLETE APPLICATION SENT BY THE APPLICANTS. APPLICATIONS THAT ARE DUPLICATE OR INCOMPLETE WILL BE REJECTED. WARNING: CANVASING WILL RESULT IN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION.
