2022 CALL FOR CONCEPT NOTES FOR REGIONAL INNOVATION invitation is for scientists from universities, research institutes, and government agencies to join forces with their private-sector counterparts to co-develop value-added products (goods and services) from biological resources, Agricultural produce, other biological elements such as insects, microorganisms, and animals, or biological waste can all be used to create value-added goods.

BioInnovate Africa is a regional scientific and innovation-driven effort financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by Nairobi, Kenya’s International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe).

The 2022 CALL FOR CONCEPT NOTES FOR REGIONAL INNOVATION.will help eastern African scientists connect biologically-based research ideas, inventions, and technology to business and the market. Scientists in universities, research institutes, and private sector companies, as well as smallholder farmers and communities in Burundi, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, are among the beneficiaries.

 Areas of study

The concept notes should address any of the following BioInnovate Africa thematic areas::

  • Value addition to agro-produce and other biological resources
  • Biological waste conversion
  • Biologically based healthcare products

Benefits

  • Each project will receive a grant of up to US$ 1,000,000 (one million only) for a maximum period of three years.
  • Each project partner shall receive a minimum of US$ 200,000

ELIGIBILITY

  • Scientists working for legally recognized universities, research institutes, or firms (private sector companies) functioning in any of the eastern African countries are eligible to apply.
  • Scientists must be citizens of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
  • Scientist must works in the field of science medicine, business, social or other related discipline.
  • A Scientist and the organisation he/she represents are jointly regarded as a “project partner” in a collaborative project.
