Applications are open for the ASEAN-Korea Young Scholar Research Grant (YSRG) 2026. This grant helps postgraduate researchers from ASEAN Member States and the Republic of Korea as part of the ASEAN-Korea Platform for Great Minds (AKPGM) challenge supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea by the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund (AKCF). The challenge is carried out by the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS).
The YSRG goals to foster the subsequent technology of Southeast Asianists by supporting fieldwork that advances understanding of Southeast Asia, ASEAN-Korea relations, and broader regional dynamics by domestically grounded analysis and tutorial trade.
Benefits
Selected grantees will obtain:
- Round-trip worldwide airfare for authorized fieldwork
- A month-to-month fieldwork stipend (USD $1,400) for as much as three months
- Honoraria (USD $200) for native analysis advisors
- Participation within the Young Scholar Research Workshop (Online)
Eligibility
Applicants should:
- Be nationals of an ASEAN Member State or the Republic of Korea.
- Be at present enrolled in a Master’s or doctoral programme at a acknowledged establishment in ASEAN or the Republic of Korea.
- Conduct analysis related to Southeast Asian Studies, ASEAN Studies, or ASEAN-Korea Studies together with analysis on Southeast Asian societies, regional points, or ASEAN-Korea relations.
- To promote balanced regional illustration, the choice committee typically goals to award as much as one grant per ASEAN Member State and the Republic of Korea, topic to the standard of purposes obtained.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications can be assessed primarily based on:
- Academic high quality, originality and significance of the analysis
- Relevance to Southeast Asian research, ASEAN Studies, or ASEAN-Korea research
- Quality and feasibility of the proposed fieldwork
- Applicant’s analysis capability and preparedness
