In particular, the position holder will do the subsequent duties:

  1. Work on projects and programs

Through the perspective of gender equality and inclusivity, coordinate the execution of the FACE-NDC project and CapED Program in accordance with particular objectives, expected outputs, and activities while aligning with SDG targets and national priorities. Make connections between UNESCO’s national and regional education programs on teacher development, ESD, and climate change. Find and develop prospects for cross-sectoral cooperation in close coordination with pertinent parties.

Help the Ministry of Education push teacher-related initiatives by, among other things, leading the creation of a national teacher policy and institutionalizing a framework for social discussion among educators. This will help mainstream climate change education in the education sector and at the school level. Encourage the bolstering of the current interministerial framework in order to promote national sovereignty.

Conduct desk research, analysis, or analysis on topics pertaining to ESD, teachers, GRP, and climate change in order to map and document best practices in the education sector and increase the body of knowledge for evidence-based policymaking, curriculum creation, and teaching and learning materials.

Conduct coordinated national capacity development activities aimed at education officials at the national, provincial, and district levels as well as teachers, facilitators, trainers, curriculum developers, and other partners within the framework of the FACE-NDC project and CapED Program.

To involve national stakeholders and development partners, inform policy review and development, and inform curriculum and syllabi revision, among other things, compile and distribute information on the FACE-NDC project and the CapED Program in Zambia. This can be done in part by holding workshops and establishing Communities of Practice (CoPs) at various levels.

  1. PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKING

Communicate with coworkers in the same sector and in other sectors, as well as with field offices you own and others, Headquarters, Category I educational institutes, and other stakeholders. In particular, communicate with the global coordination team of the CapED Program at Headquarters to discuss updates and archive data on education initiatives, baselines, and impact measurements.

In order to support the creation and execution of national education policies, strategies, and plans as well as monitoring and evaluation, collaborate with stakeholders and public and private partners. These include the government, local education groups, NGOs, universities, research institutes, multilateral agencies, UN system-wide Results Groups, and civil society organizations.

In order to promote UNESCO’s visibility and the sharing of knowledge and best practices, represent the organization’s Education Section in the current and pertinent UN Results Groups and Local Education Groups in Zambia’s education sector.

Lengthy Synopsis

  1. MOBILIZATION OF RESOURCES

Create concept notes and project ideas based on situational analysis, needs assessments, and C/5 guidelines to aid in the mobilization of resources for the nation. Communicate with UN agencies and other development partners about collaborative projects and educational funding, like those funded by GPE. Prepare submissions, follow up on them, and schedule donor meetings.

oversee and actively participate in the process of developing donor proposals. Obtain information about particular fundraising opportunities and inform the relevant coworkers. Encourage the ideation and formulation of project concepts by providing Project Officers and field personnel with valuable feedback. Organize coworkers’ contributions and make sure donor proposals are submitted on schedule and with quality.

Encourage UNESCO ROSA in its endeavors to fortify the ties with current donors and broaden the network of offices by bringing in new contacts. Deeper donor analysis, frequent meetings and communication, active monitoring of funding opportunities and call for proposals, donor briefing sessions, and a methodical follow-up of all opportunities at the international, regional, and national levels are all ways that UNESCO ROSA can improve and expand its understanding of both current and potential donors.

IMPORTANT QUALIFICATIONS

Instruction

a graduate degree from an advanced university (Master’s degree or above) in social sciences, development studies, economics, education for sustainable development, or a closely connected topic

Experience at Work

  • Four years of minimum relevant professional experience in the fields of environmental studies, climate studies, education and teachers, with two of those years ideally spent in curriculum review, teacher education, planning and management, gender mainstreaming, and capacity building initiatives.
  • Proficiency in education sector reform and planning at the national level, coupled with a solid grasp of reforming overlapping equity issues in education financing and service delivery.
  • expertise in team development, project management, and program management for education.
  • familiarity in collaborating with government agencies.
  • in overseeing complicated work programs from start to finish, including budget creation, execution, oversight, and reporting.

Capabilities and Abilities

  • strong knowledge of ESD and teacher education in the Southern African region; ideally, you also have disciplinary background in STEM.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills along with good computer and other IT abilities.
