Overview of the Position:

The main duty of this position is to help qualified applicants for refugee status put together the strongest case file possible for a USCIS officer to review. On behalf of refugee applicants to the USRAP, the Casework Officer prepares case files, which includes physical file preparation and data entry of refugee case information into START. Based on a deep understanding of and adherence to established resettlement policies and procedures regarding current refugee processing eligibility criteria, database and file management guidelines, the role of US Resettlement Agencies, and refugee-producing country conditions, Casework Officers achieve and maintain a high performance standard.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Acquire knowledge about and put into practice existing policies and procedures from the Refugee Processing Center (RPC), Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and IRC Resettlement Support Center (RSC Asia).
  • Prescreening interviews and case updates for refugee applicants should be conducted in compliance with the cooperative agreement and USRAP rules. The interviews should also show that the interviewee has knowledge of the US Resettlement Program and background information pertinent to individual caseloads.
  • Help with roll call, case composition changes, file review, decision letter preparation, and distribution for USCIS Circuit Rides.
  • Apply thorough documentation quality check, and before returning a file for storage, make sure all necessary papers are present in START and the physical file.
  • Inform your immediate supervisor of any changes to your daily caseload, including any applicants’ and their families’ urgent protection needs or medical issues.
  • Adhere to policy and procedure when performing your duties.
  • Complete advanced casework on schedule and with a thorough understanding of USRAP regulations and procedures for exceptional caseloads.
  • Conduct prescreening interviews and offer assistance to USCIS while traveling independently to regional areas both inside and outside of Thailand.

Requirements

Job prerequisites Education: Any discipline of study at a university

  • Work Experience: Prior data entry experience is essential, and at least two years of relevant professional experience are required. Preference is given to those with interview, resettlement processing, or other NGO experience. Prior experience working in a multicultural setting is beneficial.

  • Requires a high degree of computer literacy and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) application expertise.
  • Requires demonstrated sophisticated data entry skills with high accuracy, meticulous attention to detail, and self-checking capabilities.
  • Requires 40 words per minute of typing speed.
  • Working Environment: The position is currently based in Bangkok and involves travel to processing locations and office environments. To assist the delivery of USRAP processing within Thailand and throughout the region, the post may require both local and foreign travel. Requirements include having a current passport and the capacity to get US and international visas as needed.
