Relationships at work and the organizational environment

  • The incumbent is in charge of maintaining, repairing, overhauling, and rebuilding the diesel generators and other electrical equipment on UNHCR property. S/he is also expected to implement safety programs pertaining to the safe functioning of electrical systems, generating sets, air conditioning and refrigeration installations, as well as power tools and equipment used in the building and maintenance trades. Determine the resources needed for his or her area of responsibility in relation to budget planning.

Duties

  • Install, service, maintain, and repair generating sets in accordance with accepted standards and laws governing installation and safety norms.
  • Perform installations and technical fault diagnosis for damaged or malfunctioning generators.
  • Be able to use a wide range of power tools and tools, such as saws, drills, common workshop equipment, voltage testers, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, welding/soldering equipment, and other tools and equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and diagnostics on generators and other electronic appliances.
  • Conduct technical or other evaluations of buildings or electronic devices and create technical or other reports.
  • Implement and monitor compliance with safety programs related to the secure use of electronic, electricity, and other equipment in UNHCR buildings and other structures.
  • Examine UNHCR structures, make recommendations for improvement, and provide maintenance helpers daily upkeep and repair jobs.
  • Inspect and report on any maintenance work done by contractors, and make sure the resources are being used properly.
  • Read and comprehend technical drawings, schedules, instructions, and requirements for building projects, installations, and infrastructure repair and upgrade.
  • Resolve maintenance issues with generators or other electronic structures that staff members of the UNHCR may be experiencing on an as-needed basis.
  • Fix issues; evaluate output quality and performance.
  • Teach coworkers how to repair equipment, create monthly reports, and execute preventative maintenance.
  • Complete the physical inventory inspection.
  • Examine, test, gauge, calibrate, and update electrical and generator systems to increase dependability, guarantee dependability, safety, and compliance.
  • Create maintenance plans and schedules for the electrical installations.
  • Carry out any other necessary relevant tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional work experience and education
  • Years of Experience/Level of Education
  • For G6: 2 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree or above, or 3 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma.

Relevant Work History

Essential:

  • knowledge of the mechanic, electrician, and maintenance administrator roles for generators. Experience installing, repairing, and maintaining generators for a minimum of three years. knowledgeable and skilled in the use of mechanical tools related to generator repair. a track record of success working with a global workforce.

Desirable:

  • experience working with INGOs and the UN

Language prerequisites

  • English proficiency and, if necessary, the UN working language of the duty station are requirements for positions in international professional and field service.
