Shortlisted candidates for the award are chosen from a pool of nominees whose biographies and contributions have through a thorough screening procedure.

Eligibility
- Only residents of African nations may be nominated.
- The nominee’s nominated accomplishments must be exceptional and important to Africa.
- Contributions can be made in every area of human endeavour, but they should have an influence beyond the borders of Africa.
- The act, event, or work that is the basis for the nomination must have occurred between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023.
Application
- Nomination must be submitted before October 16, 2023, at midnight, otherwise it will become ineligible.
