This coveted humanitarian award, named in honour of Scotland’s Robert Burns, recognises those who work to improve lives by providing inspiration and hope in often dire circumstances.

Award for Robert Burns Humanitarian Award

  • The prize includes a custom-made award made in Scotland and the equivalent of 1759 guineas, or today’s equivalent of £1,800, which represents the year the Bard was born and the coinage in use at the time.

Eligibility

  • They are seeking for individual or group of individuals who, like Rabbie, dedicate their lives to helping others and work to advance social change. Previous recipients of the Robert Burns Humanitarian Award demonstrate that a humanitarian can originate from any background and can be found in any location.
  • The one thing they do share, though, is a track record that has been established and demonstrates why they are deserving of the Robert Burns Humanitarian Award. Without a doubt, they all amply proved one or more of the following, either through a specific accomplishment or a string of efforts:
  • A selfless act of bravery performed above and beyond the call of duty for the benefit of humanity.
  • A dedication to performing selfless acts of service for the benefit of others and changing the world.
  • A sense of compassion and commitment to improving the lives of those in need by giving them access to shelter, food, clothing, education, and meaningful job.
  • Direct “hands-on” involvement in humanitarian efforts that directly benefit a person, a group of people, or a community.
  • Outstanding commitment and dedication that has significantly benefited others’ lives, the welfare of humanity, and society at large through voluntary leadership or service.
  • An act of compassion that was performed without the expectation of compensation and received acknowledgment from others in a group or community.
