Applications for the 2023 Gender Equity and Advancement Accelerator are currently being accepted by Acumen Academy. The Gender Equality and Advancement Accelerator, which is now in its second year, is a fully financed program for social entrepreneurs dedicated to driving the change in gender inclusion. The course discusses the fundamentals of creating a business model that can generate both impact and profit.
Throughout the course of the 12-week program, you’ll examine the skills and knowledge required to scale for impact and profitability.

You’ll have access to the following along with your cohort of businesspeople from East and West Africa:
- Business lessons on pricing strategies, consumer insights, and more
- industry-relevant case studies, and incorporate the most important lessons into your business.
- Frameworks and leadership principles for handling opposing beliefs, having difficult conversations, and solving problems
- 1:1 support and mentoring
- Tools and instruction for establishing gender equality throughout your company
- a long-standing group of businesspeople dedicated to gender equality
Benefits
After completing the 12-week program, participants are accepted into The Foundry, an exclusive community created to support business owners and thought leaders from all over the world by providing them with the social capital (resources and connections) needed to further their efforts to create a just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
Members of the Foundry have exclusive access to:
- Events for members of the foundry to learn and interact
- Opportunities for professional growth that can include free consulting services and expert leadership coaching
- Experts from the acumen ecosystem for consultations or mentoring
- Recommendations for linked leadership platforms and programs
- Access to funds, ad hoc grants provided by other organizations, or recommendations from other members of the acumen network
Eligibility
Social entrepreneurs can apply to this accelerator if they:
- Operate a social company that works to address issues of poverty and dignity in East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Ethiopia) or West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, the Gambia).
- are committed to making investments in their personal and professional progress
- are sincerely devoted to the fight against injustice and poverty, and are curious about joining a worldwide society that is unified by ideals.
- have a business that has been running for at least 18 months; this condition is negotiable if this is your second or third endeavor. Including this in your application, please.)
- Have three or more full-time employees on your team.
- possess a dedication to assisting women through all three entry channels and proof of at least one action:
- Market (products and services) (products and services)
- Internal structure (workforce and policies)
- Value stream (supply and distribution)
