Applications are open for the New Commons Indigenous Language Data Commons Incubator 2026. The New Commons Incubator is a six-month capability-constructing program that helps Indigenous-led groups in creating an information commons, that are neighborhood ruled datasets that allow accountable, equitable use for public-curiosity functions.

Through mentorship, coaching, and peer studying, the Incubator helps individuals transfer from early-stage knowledge commons concepts to clear, actionable, and fundable proposals.  

Benefits

Selected individuals will obtain capability constructing help to:

• Develop a fundable proposal for an information commons initiative
• Build a governance mannequin aligned with Indigenous knowledge sovereignty
• Strengthen their strategy to making use of knowledge and AI for public-curiosity functions and equitably distributing advantages
• Connect with a community of consultants, companions, and potential funders

By the tip of this system, individuals can have a pitch prepared proposal to advance their initiative. 

Eligibility

This Incubator is meant for people/groups who establish as Indigenous, or are working in shut partnership with Indigenous communities. 

If you don’t establish as Indigenous, you need to be capable to show: 

• A transparent, trusted, and ongoing relationship with an Indigenous neighborhood
• Evidence of neighborhood consciousness, participation, or endorsement of the initiative
• A required letter of help that gives proof of each the connection and the neighborhood’s help for the initiative

If a finalized letter will not be but obtainable, chances are you’ll add a placeholder or draft and supply the ultimate model upon request. 

Application

The type will ask you for:

• General details about you and your staff (if relevant)
• A two-web page assertion about your concept for an information commons (discover the steered template HERE)
• A letter confirming that your establishment helps your participation within the
• Incubator and the continued improvement of the initiative if chosen
• [Optional] An area to add a letter explaining your relationship with an Indigenous neighborhood
• A declaration in case you are chosen
