Each sale generates funds for literacy and education initiatives in the U.S., the UK, and around the world. Can my organization qualify for a Literacy Grant if our project does not serve children from birth to five years old?
No. This year’s Literacy Grants are designed to foster early literacy in children from birth to five years old.
Do I qualify for a Literacy Grant if my project serves children from birth to five years old and beyond?
The primary focus for each project awarded a Literacy Grant must be serving early literacy in children from birth to five years old.
Can I submit applications for multiple projects within my organization?
No. We are only able to accept one (1) application per organization. Additional applications will be disqualified from the selection process.
I’ve previously received a Literacy Grant from Better World Book. May I apply this year?
Yes! You may submit an application for a project serving early literacy in children from birth to five years old.
What types of organizations are eligible for funding?
Better World Books Literacy Grants are typically awarded to organizations with a 501(c)(3) or other tax-exempt status. This includes, but is not limited to, libraries, pre- schools, public schools, nurseries, churches, and community centers.
What is a typical grant amount?
Funding varies from project to project, and you will provide a cost estimate during the application process.
Does the Literacy project we are applying for need to be current or can it be for a completed project?
The project that you are applying for needs to be either a current project or one that is planned to start within the next six (6) to nine (9) months maximum. The grant cannot be used for a project that is fully completed.
If successful, can the award of a Better World Books Literacy grant supplement other support for the nominated project?
Yes. The Better World Books Literacy grant may be used in addition to other funding to maximize the impact of the project.
Does the project have to be an English-language project?
The literacy project itself doesn’t have to be an English language project. The application itself must be completed in English.
What makes for the “perfect” Literacy Grant applicant?
There is no such thing as the “perfect” Literacy Grant application. At Better World Books, we want to help make a real difference with literacy initiatives. Applications that are clear with regard to the project’s goals, timelines, costs, and impact are most welcome.
