The U.S. Mission in Uganda is currently accepting applications for the post of Statistician (Data Management and Statistics Team Lead), open to qualified candidates only.

For this role, the work schedule is:

Working 40 hours a week full time

Start date: The candidate’s candidacy may expire if they are unable to start working within a reasonable amount of time (four weeks) after receiving agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications.

Position of Supervisor: Yes

The Data Management and Statistician post is responsible for leading the Data Management and Statistics (DMS) team and is located in the Data Science and Informatics (DSI) Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) country office in Uganda. In addition to providing a wide range of statistical, data management, and analytical expertise and support to physicians, epidemiologists, behavioral scientists, public health specialists, and health service researchers working on USG funded projects and activities, the job holder is a senior statistician and important public health technical advisor.

Credentials and Assessments

EDUCATION: A Master’s degree in informatics, biostatistics/statistics, epidemiology, data management, or public health must be completed.

Conditions:

EXPERIENCE: Four years of steadily increasing responsibility in programming, data administration, statistics, monitoring, and evaluation, or health research are necessary. It is necessary to have at least three of these years be devoted to advanced analysis utilizing statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, or another. It also requires one year of experience supervising employees.

Assessments: (This might be examined)

LANGUAGE: English proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing is needed.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: To establish and preserve productive working connections with domestic and foreign health partners, it is necessary to possess excellent oral and writing communication skills. To plan, coordinate, and lead multidisciplinary project teams and activities, as well as to meet general administrative needs and support cooperative agreements and contracts, one must possess a solid working understanding of team management methodologies, budgeting, and fiscal management. It is necessary to have the capacity to manage productive project teams and workgroups. It is necessary to have an advanced user level with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing. For data analysis, numerical abilities are necessary. Requires statistics and research expertise in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, or sexually transmitted infections as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in professional journals, as well as national or worldwide presentations.

Qualifications: All candidates will need to pass security and medical certification exams in order to be considered.
