The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a recognised initiative to support Africa’s future leaders. The University of South Africa’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand, South Africa, serves as the host institution for the YALI Regional Leadership Centre Southern Africa (RLC SA). The RLC SA strives to cultivate entrepreneurial and innovative thinking, cross-border communication, and multicultural collaboration. It also aims to develop critical thinkers who can tackle difficult, multidisciplinary challenges.

Young African leaders’ abilities are developed by the RLC SA through core training in current African concerns and specialised training in three important areas: business and entrepreneurship; civic leadership; and public management.

THESE CRITERIA MUST BE MET BY APPLICANTS

  • Age (18-35)
  • Commitment to making a good difference in their communities, nations, and the continent of Africa
  • Demonstrated success in business, entrepreneurship, public management, or civic leadership
  • Citizenship from any of the following countries is acceptable: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
  • Possibility of committing to a three-week residential programme and a two-week online curriculum.
  • Linguistic proficiency in English

The programme encourages applications from

  • Young leaders who are from rural areas and who are economically challenged.
  • Young people with disabilities leading
  • Women
  • Those with AIDS or those who are HIV positive
  • Individuals from the region who represent and fight for the rights of LGBTIQ communities
  • Additional minority groups
  • Linguistic proficiency in English

Cohort 23 is hybrid, consisting of both online and in-resident students (11 March to 22 March 2023) and Online Cohort 19 is entirely online (26 February to 12 April 2023)

The deadline to apply for the Cohort 23 Programme and the Online Cohort 19 Programme is November 11, 2023, at 23:59 South African Standard Time.
