With this FPD Science initiative, Journalismfund Europe hopes to promote in-depth science reporting in Belgian media that is published in the Dutch language.

The programme provides money to science journalists so they can work on stories with a lot of depth and journalistic value but that cannot be produced by conventional media. The projects must involve in-depth reporting on science and its effects on society and must be unique, inventive, and time-consuming.

  • The grant is worth €60,000.

eligibility

  • The research’s findings must be disseminated in Belgium using a Dutch-language medium.
  • A project that cannot be completed through the standard routes of journalism, has significant news value and depth, and is also unique, innovative, and time-consuming, may be submitted by both beginning (starters) and seasoned journalists (seniors).
  • A journalist (written or audio-visual press) or someone who can demonstrate a desire to work in journalism is required as a candidate. In that regard, allusions to past work or personal experiences are crucial.
  • Only natural people may submit a grant application.
  • Investigative and special journalistic projects must focus on issues that are pertinent to Flanders.
  • In Belgium, the initiative must be disseminated in a Dutch-language medium. Journalists with more than two years of experience must submit a letter of intent for publishing from at least one reputable news organisation. This is first and foremost regarded as a bonus.
  • Newspaper and magazine pieces, radio and television documentaries and series, photo-reportages and books, podcasts, and journalistic nonfiction books are all eligible for grants.
