Accountabilities
- Assists in the creation, execution, and assessment of global and theme assessments, in collaboration with the theme Assessments Unit and partners. This includes:
- Keeps track of and examines particular facets of the creation of programs and projects as well as the Branch-coordinated execution of worldwide and thematic evaluations;
- examines pertinent operational, scientific, and technical papers and documents;
- recognizes concerns and problems that need to be resolved and suggests corrective measures; communicates with pertinent parties;
- recognizes and monitors corrective action;
- Conducts fundamental research on particular facets of international and thematic evaluations, operations, and other undertakings, which may involve gathering, evaluating, and presenting statistical data and other information from many sources.
- Offers significant assistance for theme and worldwide assessment as well as associated policy coordination and evaluation tasks, such as:
Reviews and analyses of new concerns and trends in the world at large, as well as involvement in assessments, research projects, and studies pertaining to scientific publications.
- Assists in designing and facilitating workshops and other interactive sessions, as well as helping to develop the action plan the team will use to manage the change. Supports the performance of consulting assignments connected to the assessments coordinated in the Branch, in partnership with the important clients.
- Assists in the creation of a range of written outputs connected to the assessments that are organized in the Branch, such as draft background papers, analytical notes, report and study sections, and publication inputs.
Uses data visualization techniques to support data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting by contributing to the gathering, analysis, and identification of trends or patterns as well as the provision of preliminary insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports.
- Offers substantive and administrative support to the consultative processes for global and thematic evaluations as well as other gatherings, conferences, and outreach initiatives, such as:
- Takes part in planning and conducting training seminars and workshops; additionally, participates in and gives presentations on given subjects or activities.
- Provides administrative and substantive support for the planning and coordination of international events
assistance and data gathering.
- Oversees the development of associated documentation and reports, including work plans, pledges, and program budgets, as well as actions pertaining to the funding of the global and thematic assessments budget (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.).
- Completes further tasks as needed.

Instruction
- Advanced university degree in environmental sciences or a similar discipline (Master’s degree or above).
- Instead of the advanced degree, a first-level university degree with an extra two years of acceptable experience may be accepted.
- It is preferable to successfully complete degree-granting and non-degree-granting programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science.
Experience at Work
- It is necessary to have at least two years of increasingly responsibility experience in project/programme management, administration, or a similar field.
- It is preferable to have prior experience designing and organizing environmental scientific assessments, ideally on an international scale.
- It is preferred to have one (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or similar fields (none if YPP or P-1 with a related degree is successful).
Spoken languages
- The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency is necessary for the advertised employment. It is desirable to know additional official languages of the UN.
NOTE: “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas, and “fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all four (read, write, speak, and understand).
