Organisations in Australia, including businesses, non-profits, and governmental bodies, are able to apply. Organisations must be registered as legal companies with an Australian Business Number, be able to show connections to partner organisations in the participating nations, and support Fellowships through in-kind or monetary donations. No individual may apply.

Eligibility

All nominated Fellows must satisfy the broad eligibility conditions listed below, according to Australian organisations:

  • Be at least 18 years old when the Fellowship first starts.
  • Not be a citizen of an eligible nation,
  • Not applying for permanent residency in Australia, or the partner of someone who is.
  • Not be a member of the military today
  • Be able to meet all criteria for (DFAT sponsored) student visas subclass 500 set forth by the Department of Home Affairs.
  • Be qualified to engage in the Fellowship.
  • Be able to travel alone because DFAT only finances and issues visa support letters for individual Fellows, not their families.
  • Fellows who require assistance due to a disability must travel with a career.

  • South Africa, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe

Priority Sectors

The following six areas of development importance must be reflected in fellowship programmes:

  • Climate change, adaptation, toughness, and the shift to green energy
  • Social inclusion, gender equality, and disability equity
  • Digital health economy, encompassing media involvement and essential technology
  • Shipbuilding and the Blue Economy
  • Facilities and connectivity

Type of Award

  • Australian companies sponsor short-term opportunities for study, research, and professional development in Australia through Australia Awards Fellowships, which do not result in university degrees. A competitive selection procedure involves holding application rounds.

Award for Fellowship

  • Australian groups may apply for financing of AUD $34,500 per Fellow, with a cap of 15 Fellows, to pay the following expenses:
  • Return airfare, as well as necessary training charges, lodging, and subsistence costs
  • Medical insurance costs while travelling to Australia (just for Fellows)
  • Programme overhead costs for special assistance for people with disabilities.

Application

  • Applications for ROUND 19 are currently being accepted, and they must be made ONLINE through Smartygrants.

PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for submitting your online application is November 7, 2023, at 11.59 p.m. (AEDT).

  • Applications submitted after the deadline or with missing information won’t be evaluated.
  • Applications sent by fax or email won’t be evaluated.

  • Australian organisations will be notified between March and June 2024 of the results of the Stage 1:Quad infrastructure Fellowships Programme and other accepted grant requests for 2023–2024.Additionally, unsuccessful Round 19 proposals will be informed. Please be aware that unsuccessful proposal feedback won’t be given.
  • Successful submissions for financing in 2024/25 are due in July.
  • At least six months before the fellows are mobilised to AustraliaStage 2: Selected Australian Host Organisations must nominate Fellows and reserves, amend the activity table, confirm the dates of travel, and provide other details using a Supplementary Form that will be made accessible on SmartyGrants.com.
