The SARB promotes South Africans’ economic prosperity by preserving price and financial stability. The control of interest rates, the creation and distribution of banknotes and coins, the setting of the cash reserve requirement for banks, the regulation of the South African financial sector, and the stability of the banking industry and the broader financial system are all under its purview.

Description

  • In the multidisciplinary subject of data science, knowledge and insights are derived from both structured and unstructured data using scientific methods, procedures, algorithms, and systems. The main goal of this plan is to build strong capabilities in central banking for advanced analytics.

The program’s structure

  • From February through December 2024, graduates will be employed by the SARB’s Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD). While retaining the section about participating in learning interventions at the SARB Academy, graduates will participate in a variety of learning interventions throughout the programme, including technical training as they will be assigned to a business department where they will work on distinctive and complex business problems.
  • There are options for a Data Science track in the programme.

Requirements for South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Graduate Development Programme For Youths

  • Candidates must hold a postgraduate degree in one of the following subjects, or be working towards one (preferably having finished the course work), in order to be eligible to be designated a SARB Graduate.
  • The study of data.
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Modelling for predictive analytics.
  •  Information. The use of mathematics.
  • Econometrics applied to economics. (Would Be Beneficial)  Computer technology
  • Technology.
  • Informatics and Business Mathematics.
  •  R and Python coding.

Additional conditions Potential candidates should:

  • Be citizens of South Africa;
  • Possess good analytical abilities and be inquisitive, creative, and motivated persons;
  • Have a track record of academic excellence, with a 65% or higher total average;
  • Have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;  have proof of participation in data science competitions (such as Kaggle); and/or 
  • Have contributions to GitHub/Gitlab projects (would be an added plus).
