Org. Reporting and Setting
- The organization responsible for overseeing human settlements is called UN-Habitat. The UN General Assembly has authorized the promotion of socially and environmentally responsible towns and cities with the aim of ensuring adequate shelter for everyone. UN-Habitat assists the urban poor by making cities into places where everyone may live in dignity and that are safer, healthier, greener, and have better possibilities. In order to design, manage, plan, and finance sustainable urban development, it collaborates with organizations at all levels, including those in the public and private sectors, as well as all branches of government.
- The External Relations Strategy, Knowledge, and Innovation Division (ERSKID) is where this position is located. The incumbent will be in charge of the following tasks under the direct supervision of the Director, ERSKID:
Responsibilities
Managerial:
- Plan and manage the portfolio’s management of projects and operational activities, making sure that they are completed on schedule and within the specified budget.
- Manage, mentor, and develop employees who work for him or her; foster employee collaboration and communication; and uphold the company’s sterling reputation as a client-focused service provider.
- Create, record, disseminate, and encourage end-users and technical employees at UN-Habitat to comply consistently to high-quality application and end-user IT standards.
- Keep up with industry developments and decide when testing and evaluating new goods and technologies are necessary. Assist in introducing technological change, internal marketing to senior management, and the organization’s overall information strategy.
- Manufacturer
- Oversee the replacement of desktop computers for UN-Habitat employees, making sure that the right equipment is acquired, deployed on time, and that the procedure complies with technical and UN replacement requirements.
- Oversee the configuration, administration, operation, technical support, and monitoring of UN-Habitat’s Microsoft web servers as well as the organization’s public website and Intranet web servers. This covers the installation of fresh software on the servers, database management, mirroring, backup, and security concerns.
- As the campus’s IT focal point, you should communicate frequently with UNON/ITS to make sure the IT infrastructure is operating effectively and reliably and that the Service Level Agreement is being followed. You should also represent UN-Habitat at Technical Review Group meetings and other interagency gatherings that have an impact on campus-wide strategies, systems, and procedures.
Applications:
- Create user requirements, system design and testing papers, IT rules and standards, and operating guidelines for personnel in technical and user documentation.
- Plan and oversee substantial web-based database projects and activities that frequently entail the employment of consultants and have an influence on a sizable or varied user base. This entails producing and monitoring project plans, carrying out systems analyses, feasibility studies, requirements specifications, testing systems against performance measures, and coordinating with users throughout all development and implementation phases. It also covers new systems and modifications to existing systems.
- Compiles and analyzes data to find trends or patterns, and then uses data visualization techniques to communicate insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports to support data-driven planning, decision-making, presenting, and reporting.

Education
- A master’s degree or its equivalent in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline is required.
- The advanced university degree may be substituted with a first-level university degree and two (2) more years of relevant experience.
- It would be ideal to successfully complete both degree-granting and non-degree data analytics, business analytics, or data science programs.
Experience at Work
- It is necessary to have at least five (5) years of steadily increasing responsibility working with Microsoft servers, web-based systems, and/or systems analysis.
- It is necessary to have prior national or international experience.
- It’s necessary to have event management experience.
- It is necessary to have practical expertise managing application web-based development projects, managing database management, and/or using Microsoft servers.
- It’s necessary to have managerial experience with IT personnel and consultants.
- It would be ideal to have previous administrative experience.
- It would be ideal to have experience in computer information system planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance.
- Experience in data analytics or a related field of two (2) years or more is preferred.
Languages
- The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English fluency is necessary for this position. It would be ideal to know another official UN language.
- NOTE: “Fluency” equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, and understand), and “Knowledge of” is a rating of “confident” in two of the four.

- An assessment exercise and a competency-based interview may both be used to evaluate competent individuals.
