A research-based residency project called Constructing Care seeks to solve the global care crises’ problems from a regional standpoint. The residency also intends to promote cultural output, such as a fresh piece of art or exhibition strategy. The long-term goal is to develop and present an exhibition on the art of care based on the resonances of the residency Constructing Care (for 2025). Together with a meaningful creative engagement in the communities they are getting to know throughout the residence period, the aim is to forge long-lasting relationships among the residents that can be used in their future work. Applications that address care as an intimate, personal, and interpersonal act are encouraged, as are proposals that consider the political aspects of the care crisis, such as the lack of adequate state support, the connection between care workers and migration, feminised labour in the care industry, and the gender aspect of the invisible unpaid care work, among other issues. In order to portray the care community as a self-aware and empowered affinity group, the project will strengthen networking among the included artists and the local scene.

A specially designed programme offered by GuestRoomMaribor fosters a collaborative environment and promotes multidisciplinary participation. The programme also provides opportunities for professional growth, such as talks by academics and scholars and mentorship sessions. Additionally, all residency-related content will be distributed online both during and after the residency time. There will be 5 residents staying with them for the full 35 days of the residency (excluding travel days).
