Duties

  • Keep up with any changes in the legal, political, security, and other fields that have an impact on the protective environment, particularly the delivery of protection through RSD.
  • Assist in the annual planning process and the creation of the operation’s RSD strategy.
  • Offer counseling to refugees and asylum seekers and reply to their questions, especially in the wake of receiving a negative RSD judgment.
  • Keep complete, accurate, and current records and data about all work done on specific situations.
  • By providing supervision, counsel, and direction to UNHCR employees, partners, and individuals of concern, help avoid and identify fraud in RSD.
  • Consistently incorporate an age, gender, and diversity (AGD) viewpoint when carrying out assigned tasks.
  • Carry out research on country of origin information (COI) and other RSD-related matters, and keep the operation’s local repository of pertinent data, rules, and regulations available to RSD staff.
  • Assist in the tracking of RSD trends as well as the gathering and analysis of RSD statistics relevant to the handling of RSD cases.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of systems that guarantee accurate information about RSD procedures, including UNHCR standards, policies, and practice, is available to individuals of concern, government agencies, and partners.
  • Assist in efforts to develop and implement fair and effective RSD procedures and RSD decision-making by advocating with and supporting Government authorities and legal partners.
  • Draft letters and reports pertaining to the Operation’s RSD activities.
  • In accordance with specified criteria, refer specific situations to other operational functional units and/or outside partners for appropriate follow-up.
  • In accordance with the RSD SOPs, provide individual asylum seekers with advice on the factors that led to adverse RSD rulings.
  • Carry out any other necessary relevant tasks.

  • For G6: 2 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree or above, or 3 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma.

Language prerequisites

Profile of the ideal candidate

  • Interviewing and evaluating difficult RSD cases are among the duties of the RSD Associate role, a higher-level caseworker position in the RSD Unit. Therefore, the RSD Associate needs to have good technical RSD skills. The competence to conduct interviews and evaluate RSD situations with increased levels of complexity, including exclusion issues, must be proven by the RSD Associate. The RSD Associate needs to be skilled at COI research and drafting. The RSD Associate should be familiar with handling RSD cases using several RSD procedure types. The RSD Associate’s job requires them to create high-caliber work under pressure, therefore they must also be skilled at time management, planning, and organizing. In order to discuss matters pertaining to UNHCR RSD procedures, pertinent UNHCR guidelines, and RSD-related standards, the RSD Associate may communicate with Government authorities and other partners. The RSD Associate will be expected to foster workplace harmony and teamwork and will be required to report daily to the UNHCR offices in 6 October City, Giza Governorate.
