Institutional Goals and Reporting

This post is located in the Nairobi-based Centralized Warehouse Section of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The position’s primary point of contact will be the Chief, Inventory-Stock Control/Acquisition Unit.

Responsibilities

The NO-A level assistant pharmacist will be in charge of the following tasks within the scope of their authority: Inventory and Purchase:

maintains and keeps an eye on the pharmacy’s inventory.

supports the development of specifications for medications, medical supplies, and equipment.

receives authorized online requests for goods and services and confirms requests in accordance with the monthly needs of the relevant sections or units. ensures that supplies are quickly distributed to the asking offices or departments in accordance with approved requisitions.

Monitors the supply levels in the stores; performs routine inventories of consumables in the supply stores; alerts the supervisor to disparities seen and to supplies that need stock replenishment as soon as possible. makes sure that the items’ expiration dates are tracked and observed

helps with the routine tasks of the medicine Section’s pharmacy and medicine warehouse.

assists in the pharmacy’s and warehouse’s monthly write-off of expired products, including medicines, medical equipment, and consumables, and submits reports with the write-offs’ details.

maintains and keeps current pharmacy-related records.

maintains and protects the pharmacy’s correct storage conditions for medicines and medical supplies.

inspects all supplies that are brought into the medical section.

fulfills requests by packing and preparing medical consumables and supplies for distribution to diverse sectors.

aids in the delivery of medical supplies to all areas through transportation.

helps to keep an eye on the Mission’s supply of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, consumables, vaccines, condoms (male and female), and blood. Services for patients:

provides daily guidance on medical difficulties.

Giving UN employees access to medication and related supplies while providing them with the necessary knowledge and instructions on how to use and consume them.

explains the pharmacology of the medications to clients and alerts them to potential hazards.

prepares and provides administrative support for the maintenance of records and data on the first-aid medical kits for each member of the UN staff.

other corresponding tasks as needed.

Education

undergraduate standing in pharmaceutical studies.

Job-Specific Requirements

It would be ideal to have a medical logistics certificate for pandemic. It would be ideal to have working knowledge of the Supply Chain Planning Tool (SCPT) and certification as a Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) Practitioner. A supply chain management master’s degree is preferred.

Experience at Work

A minimum of two years of steadily increasing responsibility in pharmaceutical work or a related field are necessary. Being familiar with the UN or other international organizations is preferred. Requisitioner experience using an ERP system is preferred.

Languages

The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. English proficiency (both oral and written) is necessary for this role. NOTE: “Knowledge of” means a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas, whereas “Fluency” is a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand).

Assessment

An assessment exercise and a competency-based interview may both be used to evaluate competent individuals.
