In order to highlight successful and or promising experiences in gender-based violence (GBV) and family violence (FV) prevention, response, reparations, institutional strengthening, and data innovation at an upcoming knowledge fair, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has issued a call for proposals.

A creative and colourful cultural event, the Knowledge Fair Empowering Voices, Ending Gender-Based Violence seeks to address gender-based violence (GBV) in the Caribbean. The fair, which is sponsored by the Spotlight Initiative Caribbean Regional Programme, will be held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from November 6–8, 2023.
Governments, civic society, academics, and grassroots groups are encouraged to work together, form alliances, and exchange expertise at the fair. This invitation-only event aims to put together an engaging and varied programme of experiences and significant projects. The Knowledge Fair offers a venue for displaying outstanding initiatives, honouring actors, fostering cross-learning, and amplifying the impact of successful tactics through lively discussions, artistic expressions, and interactive activities.
Themes and Experience Types
- An advisory group will choose the knowledge fair’s subjects, ensuring that the information presented there represents the most urgent problems and cutting-edge advancements in GBV and FV prevention. The chosen themes will direct the fair’s attention and connect with its four main pillars, underscoring its dedication to treating GBV fundamental causes.
- The experiences that are submitted should have the following qualities:
- experiences that have just started or are currently in progress.
- at least one of the following categories:
- Experiences with Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Violence Against Women. It involves programmes, cultural interventions, societal norm reform, youth participation, and partnerships with the commercial sector that are all geared at proactively stopping acts of violence.
- Experiences Reacting to Gender-Based Violence and Violence Against Women. It deals with responses by law enforcement, the justice system, healthcare systems, hotlines, digital support mechanisms, and psycho-emotional support for victims reporting incidents. It also deals with actions and programmes addressing the aftermath of violence, such as the provision of shelter, institutional capacity strengthening, inter-agency coordination, delivery of essential services, and responses by police, justice, and healthcare systems.
- Experiences in Restoring the Damage Done by Gender-Based Violence and Violence Against Women. It entails methods for restoring the wellbeing of survivors, such as support for the children of femicide victims, enhancements to the court system’s responsiveness, and economic and socio-emotional healing.
- Legislation, policies, and institutional strengthening experiences for comprehensive responses to violence against women and girls and gender-based violence. In order to build an environment that is supportive of effectively addressing violence against women and girls, it includes measures to improve legal frameworks, policies, and the skills of organisations and institutions.
- Data and Innovation in Comprehensive Responses to Gender-Based Violence and Violence Against Women. It emphasises cutting-edge techniques and data-driven remedies for addressing violence against women and girls, including data gathering, prevalence surveys, preventative plans, thorough response systems, and the integration of digital technology.
Gains from Participation
- The following rewards will be given to 1 to 2 representatives from each of the up to 20 ideas that are chosen:
- Attending the Knowledge Fair: Empowering Voices, Ending GBV in Bridgetown, Barbados (November 6–8, 2023) with travel and lodging expenses paid.
- a special location with designated sessions at the fair to present accomplishments and lessons learned.
- Opportunities for negotiations and exchange with other regional nations and institutions.

- Participating in the call for ideas will provide you the chance to publicise your important work, increase your exposure, and support regional initiatives to fight GBV and FV.
- They anticipate your input and active participation in creating a knowledge fair that promotes teamwork, highlights regional accomplishments, and expedites our shared journey towards a Caribbean free from GBV.
Selection Standards
- The following criteria will be used to evaluate the experiences:
- Innovation: Presenting fresh, original ideas for GBV prevention, mitigation, or response that go against the grain and have the potential to bring about fundamental change.
- Coordination: Showing strong cooperation and coordination amongst several stakeholders, organisations, and sectors to solve GBV thoroughly and all-around.
- Considering different identities and experiences and promoting inclusivity in GBV prevention measures are all examples of intersectionality. It entails recognising and addressing the intersecting forms of violence and prejudice.
- Cultural Relevance: Adapting strategies to the distinctive cultural circumstances and norms of the Caribbean in order to make interventions locally relevant and appealing to the groups they would effect.
- Replicability: Providing proof of effective outcomes and adaptable practises that may be used in various contexts to scale up GBV prevention initiatives.
- Sustainability is the evaluation of a planned experience’s potential for long-term continuation and impact, taking into account elements including resource accessibility, community involvement, and scalability.
