The Access City Award Contest 2024(Over €350 000) prize honours communities that have made significant efforts to improve accessibility for people with impairments.

The European Commission and the European Disability Forum collaborate to organise the 2024 Access City Award.

Cities whose efforts to improve accessibility are in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus—sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusivity—will receive special recognition in this edition.

Eligibility

The Access City Award is available to all EU cities with a population of over 50,000 urban regions made up of two or more towns with a combined population of over 50,000 if they are in an EU country with fewer than two cities with a population of over 50,000.

Why should I apply?

By taking part in the Award, you can increase your visibility throughout Europe and have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to assess the state of affairs in your city.
Additionally, it enables you to exchange knowledge with other European cities, enhancing your status as a desirable place to live and visit.

Awards

A financial award is given to the winning cities:

  • First place: €150,000
  • Second place: €120,000
  • Third place: €80,000
  • Unique honour
  • The New European Bauhaus special mention will be given this year by the European Commission to a city whose efforts to improve accessibility are in line with its principles of sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusivity.

Criteria

The following actions have been taken or are planned to be considered by the jury:

  • Urban design and public areas
  • Information and communication, including emerging technologies (ICTs), connected to transportation
  • Public services and facilities
