The awards, which were established by the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in 2019, honour ground-breaking inventions from Commonwealth nations that support one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The entries will be evaluated by an impartial jury, which will choose 15 winners—three from each Commonwealth region—across five categories. The five pillars of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development—People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership—serve as the framework for each category.

Objectives

  • The innovations that have a proven potential to improve sustainability in Commonwealth nations in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals should be identified, highlighted, and supported;
  • Fostering a climate that will support and encourage investments in innovations driven by Commonwealth governments, corporations, women, young people, and social enterprises;
  • By exposing the inventive potential of the prize winners, you may demonstrate the range and depth of skill, dedication, and innovation that exist throughout the Commonwealth;
  • Encourage, inspire, and challenge people to create ideas that will be helpful and useful for attaining the SDGs at the local, national, regional, and international levels.

Requirements

  • The awards emphasise recognising innovations that enhance human well-being, safeguard the environment, support prosperity, advance peace, and fortify alliances for sustainable development.

Benefits

  • At a ceremony that will take place on November 27 in Nairobi during the first Commonwealth Edition of Kenya Innovation Week 2023, each winner will be presented with a trophy, a certificate of achievement, and a cash prize of £3,000 in addition to other prizes.
  • There will be a total of 15 winners overall, with three award recipients in each of the five categories.
