As cities grow in size and density, they become increasingly vulnerable to the catastrophic effects of floods, which can cause major economic losses, property destruction, and hazards to public health and safety.

This initiative intends to create a forum for young people to express their concerns, thoughts, and solutions for urban flood resilience through written essays, raising awareness about the issue and supporting innovative flood risk-mitigation measures.

Eligibility

Entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of submission.
Participants must be Southeast Asian citizens. It is necessary to provide valid proof of citizenship.
Checklist for Essays

  • Word Count: Entries must be no more than 750 words. This excludes the title and any references.
  • Language: All submissions must be written in English.
  • File Format: Entries must be submitted in both Microsoft Word (.doc or.docx) and PDF format.
  • Original Work: Entries must be the entrant’s original work. Any plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Unpublished Work: Entries must not have previously been published in print or online, including personal blogs and social media platforms.
  • Each participant is only allowed to submit one entry. A single participant’s multiple entries will result in disqualification.
  • Relevance to the issue: Entries must be relevant to the issue of urban flood resistance.
  • Non-Transferable: Submissions cannot be done on someone else’s behalf; the individual submitting the essay must be the author.
  • No Offensive information: Essays should not contain any offensive, improper, or illegal information.
  • Acceptance of Terms and Conditions: By entering the competition, contestants agree to follow all of the organisers’ rules and judgments.
