The King Bhumibol World Soil Day Award 2023 is now accepting applications. The WSDA’s mission is to inspire WSD event organizers at all levels to create difficult and remarkable celebrations around the world.

The award is sponsored by the Kingdom of Thailand, the country that was instrumental in establishing the now-famous World Soil Day. The United Nations General Assembly decided in December 2013 to officially designate December 5 as World Soil Day to recognize His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand’s lifelong work and commitment to improving the quality of life for millions through sustainable soil management.

Award

The prize consists of a medal, a USD $15,000 check, and a trip to Thailand (if possible) to accept the prize.

Eligibility

Individuals, institutions, NGOs, academia, colleges and universities, commercial corporations, or any other entity may be considered for the prize; a wide range of WSD events may be considered for the award. The event must adhere to the year’s WSD theme and take place between December 1 and December 15.

Application

Don’t pass up the opportunity to compete if you arranged an amazing World Soil Day event for the campaign ‘Soils, Where Food Begins’ in 2023.

After the event, the organizers should submit the World Soil Day (WSD) report (Fill out the call for application 2023) to the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) Secretariat (GSP-Secretariat@fao.org) in any of the official UN languages.
Along with the report, WSD organizers are encouraged to complete their application by sending the Secretariat: high-quality photographs (preferably with captions); videos (showing the work-in-progress and results); communication material or any related publications, digital coverage (website/web stories/blog/social media); and demonstrated wide appeal in the media (i.e. media coverage and press release).
Photos taken during the event must be posted on social media with the hashtags #WorldSoilDay and #GlobalSoilPartnership #UNFAO (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok).
