Call for Proposals to Advance Transformative Change in Key Sectors

Deadline: Until: 10 September 23 | Call for Proposals to Advance Transformative Change in Key Sectors

To advance transformative change in important sectors, the Climate & Clean Air Coalition is looking for proposals.

The projects sought by this request for proposals aim to hasten the sector involvement strategies of the CCAC. By showing the desireability, viability, and feasibility of a mitigation solution or approach across a country, sector, or area, projects should establish the foundation for scaled-up mitigation of SLCP emissions.

According to the Paris Agreement’s objectives, the CCAC’s 2030 Strategy seeks to significantly reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) this decade while also enhancing air quality.

While SLCP emission reduction efforts are progressing, mitigation must be accelerated across a variety of emitting industries in order to meet 2030 targets. The CCAC has created engagement plans that are aimed at the major SLCP emission sectors in response. These plans lay out the structures and methods needed to cut emissions this decade.

Scope

  • In at least one of the major sectors that create short-lived climate pollutants—agriculture, cooling, fossil fuels, heavy-duty cars and engines, household energy, or waste—projects should propose and test a new method for reducing SLCP emissions. The suggested strategy should include at least one of the following and must be in line with the objectives and actions listed in the pertinent CCAC sector engagement strategy:

  • Technological or technical approach
  • Economic driver or business strategy
  • Change in behavior or society
  • Regulatory framework or regulatory enforcement
  • Unlocking financial and investment potential
  • Regional or global sector transformation strategy
  • The enabling conditions for a scaled-up execution of the suggested strategy are anticipated to be created by projects. To accomplish this, projects must:
  • Clearly and pertinently address an economic, strategic, or societal requirement
  • Display the backing, ownership, or dedication of the necessary parties.
  • Target a specific region, industry, or demographic
  • and adopt a comprehensive, systemic strategy
  • Have a strategy in place to maintain results once the project is finished.
  • Show the potential for a significant and lasting influence.
  • Collaborations across disciplines and the participation of relevant private sector players are also encouraged.

Financial Details

  • Funding: There are US$4 million total funds available for this call, with a maximum of US$800,000 per project.
  • Project A maximum of two years.

Expected Results

  • By the end of the project or shortly thereafter, projects should be able to achieve the following results:
  • Through small-scale deployment, the SLCP mitigation strategy is shown to be effective, and possible risks and gaps are noted.
  • The targeted government authorities and/or sector stakeholders acknowledge, support, or accept the SLCP mitigation strategy.
  • Targeted stakeholders possess the necessary skills and/or expertise to put the SLCP mitigation strategy into practice.
  • To fully apply the SLCP mitigation technique, more financial sources are found and/or stimulated.

Eligibility requirements

  • Only non-profit organizations, including as governmental bodies, intergovernmental organizations, and NGOs, are eligible for funding from the CCAC. For-profit organizations are only permitted to take part in projects as end users, co-funders, or stakeholders.
  • If a for-profit organization’s ownership of the proposed solution is essential to the project’s success, applicants are encouraged to include them in the formulation of the project proposal and/or throughout project execution.
  • Project applications must meet the following requirements to be funded:
  • Describe how the project will transform society.
  • Describe how the initiative will help to reduce SLCP emissions on a large scale.
  • Give a concrete plan of action for bringing about radical change.
  • Include demonstrations of the suggested SLCP mitigation strategy’s viability.
  • Determine the potential of the suggested mitigation strategy to reduce emissions of SLCPs, greenhouse gases, and air pollutants, if appropriate.
  • Calculate the associated cobenefits for sustainable development (economic, health, environmental, food security, etc.).
  • Give a plan and strategy for enhancing and implementing the suggested SLCP mitigation strategy.
  • Describe how the project supports other sectoral initiatives.
  • Justify how the initiative fits in with the objectives of the CCAC engagement strategy for the concerned industry.

Project proposals should take into account the upcoming factors as appropriate:

  • Cross-sectoral approaches or cross-sectoral synergies are effective solutions.
  • cooperation between areas, nations, or communities facing comparable issues or challenges
  • Existing techniques or information that can be improved upon or used
  • Projects that are thought to fall outside the scope or objectives of this call won’t receive a thorough review. It is not appropriate to submit projects under this call that support national planning and national mitigation policies.
