The Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement’s main goal is to honor excellent contributions to:

Discovery, development, or improvement of sustainable energy sources; Understanding of, or improvements to, planetary health. Protection, maintenance, improvement, or understanding of an ecological or environmental condition.

Award

The yearly prize is $250,000. Co-winners split the monetary award equally.

Eligibility

Consideration is open to both private individuals and public entities.
Nominations are welcomed and encouraged from all over the world.

Criteria

The nominee(s)’ work is anticipated to:

  • be founded on solid science, such as the natural or social sciences;
  • addressing the world’s injustices;
  • Impacts on a practice, policy, or concern related to the environment should be observable and scalable.
  • Engage the younger generation in conversation.

On Friday, August 11, 2023, at 5:00 PM (PDT), submissions must be received. Late submissions won’t be taken into consideration.

When making a nomination, a person or organization will be asked a series of questions that can help them determine how their nominee’s accomplishments meet with the aforementioned criteria.

Details needed for the nomination form include:

  • Names in full, addresses, phone numbers, etc., of the nominee and the proposer. The nominee’s and nominator’s home or mobile phone numbers must included on all nomination papers. The nomination form can now be submitted online. Be aware that you can now pick between the individual or organization form.
  • A one- to two-page overview of the accomplishments, discovery, advancement, or other contribution made by the person or organization for whom the award is being considered, with connections to pertinent websites and works.
  • a list of 3 to 5 people who are willing to write references for the nomination if it moves on to the short list (please include their names, organizations, and email addresses as points of contact). References will be requested to specifically address the nominee’s work’s impact as well as the other Prize requirements.
  • If a person is being nominated, a short curriculum vitae should be submitted together with links, (if available), to relevant publications, reports, and websites highlighting the distinctive contribution(s) that are the subject of the nomination.
  • If an organization is being nominated, a brochure or datasheet, connections to the website, all pertinent statistics, and any other information supporting the candidacy should be provided.

  • supplies for submission: The NOMINATION YEAR AND NOMINEE’S NAME MUST BE INCLUDED IN ALL FILE NAMES. (Examples: ACMEReferees2024, JoannaSmith2024CV, GOOGLEreferees2024, etc.)
  • Beginning with the first year of nomination, all nominees will be taken into consideration for three years. You will be informed by September 29 if your nominee has made it to the shortlist.
