Regarding the Grant

A $10 million global cleantech challenge has been announced by the International Gas Union and NGIF Industry Grants.

The Challenge is an invitation to clean technology-based energy entrepreneurs from around the globe to come to Canada in order to obtain grant financing, technological validation for product market fit, and potential energy customers.

Through the Global Cleantech Challenge, NGIF Industry Grants will have access to financing from its 14 participating energy companies to assist the creation and international demonstration of breakthrough clean technologies. Up to $1MM CAD, or as much as 50% of a project’s eligible costs, may be awarded to any demonstration project carried out in Canada.

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and start-ups from across the world are welcome to submit proposals for NGIF Industry Grants if their products will improve the production, transportation, distribution, and final use of natural gas in Canada while also reducing its negative environmental effects.

Eligibility requirements

  • Small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs), including startups in technology development, from all around the world, including Canada, are welcome to participate the competition.
  • New innovations that boost the gaseous energy sector’s economic and environmental performance.
  • technology with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6 or higher. Late TRL 5 technologies will be taken into consideration if TRL 6 is soon to be achieved.
  • Non-subsidiary Canadian and international small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), as well as independent technology development companies with less than 500 employees.
  • Startups in Canadian and foreign technology development that are non-subsidiary, independent, have less than 100 people, bring in less than CAD $25 million annually, and are concentrated on creating and growing pre-commercial innovations.
