The prestigious AWIEF Awards, which recognize, honor, and celebrate women entrepreneurs and business owners in Africa and across various industry sectors for their accomplishments and contributions to the continent’s inclusive economic growth and social development, are now accepting nominations for the 2023 edition.
The award-winning pan-African organization for women’s economic empowerment known as AWIEF (the Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum) promotes women’s business leadership and entrepreneurship in Africa in order to reduce gender disparities.

Requirements
- Emerging and established female entrepreneurs in the for-profit and private sectors who have overcome obstacles to have a significant social impact and/or succeed in their businesses in line with AWIEF’s core areas of innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and socio-economic development should be considered for the AWIEF Awards.
- In collaboration with Rwanda’s Ministry for ICT and Innovation and Rwanda Convention Bureau, the AWIEF2023 conference is scheduled to take place on November 9 and 10, 2023, at the Kigali Convention Center, Kigali, Rwanda. At a special gala dinner during the conference, winners of the 2023 AWIEF Awards will be announced and honored.
Categories
The following criteria apply to the 8 categories of the AWIEF Awards:
Award for Young Entrepreneurs
- Young female entrepreneurs and start-ups between the ages of 18 and 35 who have shown exemplary entrepreneurial spirit and ability to develop and grow successful and sustainable businesses are eligible to be nominated. The young businesspeople must be role models for leadership in their industry and for the value of entrepreneurship in bringing about constructive change.
- They must be an inspiration and have achieved real, material achievement (employers and revenue can show this).
Award for tech entrepreneurs
- Female entrepreneurs who have founded a cutting-edge, game-changing technology venture or start-up should be considered for nomination.
Farm Entrepreneur Prize
- Nominees should be female business owners who have made a name for themselves in the agriculture and agribusiness value chain and who have demonstrated traction and an influence on the environment and/or food security.
Award for Creative Industry
- This prize honors a woman who has achieved success in the fields of movies, music, food, beauty, arts, fashion, media, advertising, design, and crafts by being innovative, creative, and entrepreneurial.
Achievement Award
- Women who have made substantial contributions and investments in empowering women and girls, as well as the communities in which they live and work, should be considered for nomination.
Award for Energy Entrepreneurs
- Candidates should be successful female business owners in the oil and gas, green energy, and/or renewable energy sectors who have an impact on energy access and/or availability in their communities and countries.
Award for Social Entrepreneurs
- Candidates should be female business owners who have created an original, systemic, and long-lasting solution to a social problem, having a profound social impact on their communities and nations.
Award for Lifetime Achievement
- Candidates should be well-established female company owners and role models who have proven long-term success in their fields as well as remarkable and outstanding leadership in the workplace. The honor also acknowledges important contributions made to the economy and the development of jobs.
The deadline for submissions for the 2023 AWIEF Awards is July 31, 2023. You have the option of nominating yourself or another person.
