The WFF Startup Innovation Awards, powered by Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), are an international startup competition created to support and recognize entrepreneurs and innovators who are using technology to transform agrifood systems in a sustainable way to help end world hunger and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

These awards aim to elevate the next generation of entrepreneurs who are developing new technologies and innovations to benefit our planet and the agrifood systems we need to thrive. They are made possible by a strategic partnership with XTC, the largest startup competition in the world for entrepreneurs addressing global challenges.
Requirements
The competition is open to businesses whose work has an impact on any aspect of agrifood systems, including the production, collection, processing, distribution, consumption, and disposal of food products derived from forestry, agriculture, or fisheries, as well as elements of their broader economic, societal, and natural environments.
Timeline:
Launch of the WFF Startup Innovation Awards, supported by XTC, via our website, mailing list, and social media at the UN STI Forum, Phase I: May 2023.
The deadline for new applications is June 15, 2023.
Phase II: The June–October 2023 WFF–XTC Startup Cup: The WFF-XTC selection team will select a small number of companies to be featured on our website and compete in the September semi-finals from among the list of applicants.
The eight finalist startups for the Four Betters will then present their ideas to a panel of judges in a session during the World Food Forum’s flagship event from October 16 to 20. The WFF Innovation Award Ceremony will then announce the overall winner of the WFF Startup Innovation of the Year Award as well as the winners of each category of the Four Betters. The 2023 theme is “Agrifood systems transformation accelerates climate action.”
