POGO-SCOR Fellowship Applications Are Now Being Accepted

Deadline: May 15, 2023 | POGO-SCOR Fellowship Applications Are Now Being Accepted

Concerning the Organization

In order to promote and enhance the observation of the worldwide ocean, directors of oceanographic institutions from all over the world established the Partnership for Observation of the worldwide Ocean (POGO) in 1999. POGO, a charity with members from all over the world and UK registration, collaborates closely with other global and regional initiatives and organizations.

The Fellowship’s mission

This program, which is jointly supported by POGO and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), aims to support capacity building and training initiatives that will eventually result in a global ocean observation program. Since 2001, 190 fellowships have been awarded as a result of the program’s success, which spans about 20 years.

The fellowship program is open to scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (ideally with a PhD), and postdoctoral fellows who are engaged in oceanographic research and who are citizens of developing or transitioning economies. According to the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC), applicants must be nationals of developing nations or economies in transition. The right-hand menu contains a list of the qualified nations. The program’s principal goal is to develop long-term ocean observations and related uses. Candidates in the early phases of their careers are given preference. Instead of teaching research methods, this fellowship is meant to support training in oceanographic observations. It offers the chance to travel to different oceanographic centers for a brief period (1 to 3 months) in order to receive training on any topic related to oceanographic observations, analyses, and interpretation. Its principal goal is to develop sustained ocean observations and their applications.
