The GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition, now in its fifth year, supports youth-led agrifood enterprises to #GrowAfricaGrowLife. You are the answer. We are constructing an African food system as a team, one that is led and owned by Africans.

GoGettaz is a member of the Generation Africa movement, which aims to encourage the next generation of African agripreneurs by providing them with the tools they need to take their companies from the concept stage to the commercial stage. All participants in the African food system’s value chain, from production to agri-tech to value addition to market connections to agri-finance, are welcome to join the community.

Eligibility requirements

Young African agripreneurs have an amazing chance to realize their full agribusiness potential with the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize. The competition offers top agripreneurs the chance to attend the annual African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) and make their mark in addition to the US$50,000 prize.

The top GoGettaz agricultural entrepreneurs will visit the AGRF Summit, which is taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, this year.

Additionally, all of the finalists will get mentoring, programming connections, and advice to help them continue their entrepreneurial journeys.

The Businessperson

  • Entrepreneur is under 35 years old at the time of competition entry and is regarded as an adult under local law.
  • An official ID proving the nationality of the entrepreneur is from an African Union member nation.
  • Entrepreneurs are active participants in the operations and leadership of the ventures they represent in competitions. They are the founders or cofounders of those ventures.
  • Entrepreneur will produce a signed declaration stating that they have no history of corruption, tax evasion, financial irregularities, felonies, or other crimes upon request.

The Project

  • Venture has already begun the process of registering a legal company in a nation that is an African Union member or will do so by June 1, 2023.
  • A nation that is a part of the African Union is where Venture’s headquarters are located.
  • Venture aims to be financially self-sufficient, whether it operates as a for-profit company or as a non-profit with some income generation.
  • Through an invention or process improvement, Venture participates in the agri-food sector and/or promotes its growth.
  • Agri-food research and development are examples of firms that fall under the agri-food sector.
  • farming: the primary production of food.
  • nourishment for crops.
  • Irrigation.
  • automation, robotics, or mechanization, including drone use.
  • crop defense.
  • urban farming or hydroponics.
  • logistics, distribution, storage, or transportation.
  • processing food.
  • marketing or packaging.
  • service or retail of food.
  • Managing waste or recycling.
  • services or products related to technology or digital for the agri-food industry.
  • innovative financial services and products for the agri-food industry.
  • Environmentally friendly products or services for the agri-food industry.

The Possibility

  • The most inventive and scalable business initiatives will each get $50,000 from two entrepreneurs, one male and one female.

We want to hear from companies that demonstrate:

  • Inventiveness (20%)
  • Market traction and potential (20%)
  • Impact on society and the environment (20%)
  • Company structure (20%)
  • Team and founders (20%)

Timeline:

  • In mid-July, the Top 24 semi-finalists will be notified through email and WhatsApp.
  • Each semifinalist will be questioned and given the opportunity to provide more details.
  • At the end of July 2023, the jury will choose 12 finalists. Email and WhatsApp will be used to notify the six male and six female finalists.
  • Finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual or online pitching competition.
  • Mentorship, programming connections, and other support will be given to all 12 finalists so they can continue their entrepreneurial journeys.
