The African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC) at the Wits Centre for Journalism is giving journalists funding to look into health issues in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Swaziland, and South Africa. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is funding the grants.

The awards are designed to support and promote journalists’ knowledge and understanding of health concerns, to promote their exposure, and to allow them the time and resources to conduct in-depth, investigative reporting. Depending on the size of the inquiry, grants will range from $1,000 to $3,000. Work must be finished within three months.
Requirements
Any journalist, or group of journalists, is eligible to apply, and any media may be used for the task.
If you have received a grant from us during the previous two years, you are not eligible. We favor work that serves the public interest, seeks to enlighten the public, is thorough and investigative in nature, and makes use of cutting-edge methods, tools, or technologies. We welcome applications from both seasoned journalists and emerging writers. We might provide mentors for those who need experience.
