An intriguing format that is a part of the yearly DW Global Media Forum is the start-up contest@GMF. (GMF). International media start-ups are invited to participate in an incubation session over several days leading up to the event, pitch their concepts and business models to a worldwide audience, and compete for first place.

The 16th DW Global Media Forum, which will take place both on-site at the Bonn World Conference Center and online, will feature the last event on June 19 and 20, 2023.

Benefits

  • As part of the award, the winners will take advantage of DW media’s worldwide media coverage.
  • The Deutsche Welle Akademie will also provide the winners with professional media training.
  • The DW Global Media Forum itself, where some of the most significant topics in news and media today are being discussed in an interdisciplinary approach, will be open to all the selected start-ups’ participation digitally as delegates.

Eligibility

  • Open to international media start-ups to present their ideas and business plans to a worldwide audience.

You must be interested in, or ideally already be working on, innovations and trends in one of the following areas to participate:

  • How can smart tools support the job done in the newsroom?
  • How can we create new tools to improve media literacy and limit the dissemination of false information?
  • How might cutting-edge technological ideas be used to strengthen civic societies?
  • How do we detect online censorship and shutdowns while improving the systems and safeguards in place to protect free speech on the internet?
