A new generation of young African champions for high-quality education will be supported by investments made by the Trevor Noah Foundation and the Young African Leaders Initiative Regional Leadership Center Southern Africa (YALI RLC-SA).

Two phases will make up the program’s implementation:

  • 1) a four-week intense classroom course focusing on fundamental leadership abilities and the use of commercial and public institution management tools for the education sector; and
  • 2) a six-month post-graduation coaching and mentoring program.
  • Additionally, the curriculum will use highly participatory approaches for site visits and live case studies.

The Graduate School of Business Leadership in Midrand, South Africa, is home to the University of South Africa’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), a prominent initiative to support the continent’s future leaders.

A nonprofit organization called the Trevor Noah Foundation gives underprivileged youngsters the educational foundation and chance they need to become strong South African leaders in the future.

Requirements / Eligibility

Candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Youthful pioneers, Aged (18-35)
  • Nationals of Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe must have the following qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to positively impacting their communities, nations, and the African continent;
  • Experience in the education sector;
  • Able to commit to a four-week residential training program;
  • English language proficiency.

The program encourages applications from:

  • Young African Leaders in the Education Sector, including Principals, Teachers, Education Enterprises or Nonprofits, and Policymakers;
  • Rural-based and Economically Disadvantaged Young Leaders;
  • Young Leaders with Disabilities; People Living with HIV or AIDS;
  • People who Represent and Advocate for the Rights of LGBTI Communities Throughout the Region;
  • Other Minority Groups;

Benefits

  • There is no cost to apply for the program or to take part in it.
  • The program will pay for round-trip transportation, housing, meals, and course materials for selected applicants.
  • The participant will be responsible for all additional charges.
  • The program takes place in the Regional Leadership Center in Midrand, South Africa, and requires a commitment to attend all sessions in person.
