The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a division of the Federal Government charged with creating indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to serve the needs of the oil and gas sector, is accepting applications from qualified individuals for its overseas MSc and PhD scholarships under the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2023–2024.

The program was created to give applicants the chance to take use of a diverse body of knowledge and the resources provided by top schools throughout the world. In accordance with it, candidates are asked to submit applications via PTDF to certain programs at partner institutions. Flight tickets, health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and allowances to cover the costs of housing and living expenses are all included in the prize. Applications for the 2023/2024 award will only be accepted from PTDF partner universities in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, where it believes the high standards of the scholarship can be upheld and the goals of the program will be best served.

Procedure, standards, and requirements for selection

Only applicants who are exceptional in every way are chosen for PTDF scholarships since the application process is extremely competitive.

The most qualified candidates from each state will be called to an interview based on their qualifications, and a committee will be formed to evaluate applications based on the following standards:

  • Academic merit as demonstrated by the caliber of degrees, complete academic records, and other professional qualities obtained
  • publications that the applicant should cite (PhD applicants only)
  • joining professional organizations
  • The feasibility of the research or study plan.

MSc prerequisites

  • a first-degree qualification of at least Second Class Upper (2.1), or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant work experience
  • obligated to have performed National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • must be familiar with computers
  • a minimum of five O/level credits, including English and math.
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) outlining the motivation(s) behind the proposed study, its applicability to the sector, and its anticipated effects on the growth of the country.
  • Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identification Number (NIN), and verification will be necessary (NIMC verification fees will apply).

PhD prerequisites

  • obligated to have performed National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • must be familiar with computers
  • an excellent second-degree certificate and a first-degree grade of at least Second Class Lower (2.2).
  • A five-page maximum study proposal that is pertinent to the oil and gas sector must contain the following information:
  • Title Research Issue Introduction
  • Goal Research Issues/Objectives Range
  • Literature Synthesis Methodology
  • Expected results only when required
  • Please note that all lecturers must present a letter from their vice chancellors attesting to the fact that they are not receiving any other scholarships (if shortlisted). Before applying for the scholarship, applicants must have a National Identification Number (NIN), and verification is required (NIMC verification fees apply).

Essential Papers

  • It is recommended that applicants scan and upload the following documents to their online application forms:
  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Results WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results. And the PINs on the application. forms to allow PTDF to check the O’level results on the pertinent website. NYSC discharge certificate.
  • Master’s degree certificate Current passport photo Local government identification letter (PhD Applicants only)
  • proof of affiliation with professional organizations
  • Scholarship Requirements

The scholarship is for the academic year 2023–2024.

Only PTDF partner universities and PTDF partner schools are eligible for the scholarship.

There will be exclusion for Candidates applying to programs not relevant to the oil and gas industry. Because scholarships offers will only be courses relevant to PTDF’s mandate.

Also, the suggested course of study needs to be relevant to earlier research.

Several applications from a candidate will result in their disqualification.
