For the first Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023, the Kofi Annan Foundation and the Democracy and Culture Foundation are accepting nominations.

Praising the outstanding leadership displayed by youthful activists in preserving, reviving, and advancing democracy, The Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize, which was established by the Kofi Annan Foundation and the Democracy and Culture Foundation, is given annually during the Athens Democracy Forum to a young leader between the ages of 18 and 30.
 The objective is to honor outstanding leadership and encourage more young people to dedicate themselves to the growth of democracy. The award winner is chosen after the applications have been evaluated by a team of impartial judges.

Benefits for Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize 2023
- The winner receives an award of USD 10,000
- Similarly, a one-year mentorship with a recognised democracy expert.
- Each year, the winner will have the opportunity to speak at the forthcoming Athens Democracy Forum and officially pass the award to the next recipient.
Nomination
- Nominees must be between the ages of 18 and 30 at the time of nomination.
Nominations must include all of the following:
- Completed Submission Form
- A Cover Letter of support (max 500 words)
- Short video testimony from the nominee (2 minutes max, can be shot on a smartphone)

Calendar 2023
- Phase 1: The nomination process. from February 2023 to March 31st, 2023
- Phase 2: Winners are chosen by the selection committee after reviewing nominations. Announcing the winners in July 2023.
- Phase 3: At the Athens Democracy Forum in Athens, Greece, in September 2023, awards will be presented.
- Phase 4: Training and mentoring.
- Phase 5: Awardee delivers 2024 prize to subsequent winner and moderates a panel discussion at the Athens Democracy Forum.
