ADVANCING REGIONAL VACCINE MANUFACTURING AND ACCESS IN AFRICA FELLOWSHIP BY AFYA NA HAKI

In accordance with its “Advancing Regional Vaccine Manufacturing And Access in Africa (ARMA) Program. ” Afya na Haki (Ahaki) is accepting applications for a fellowship. The main goal of the fellowship is to increase African people’s abilities to perform policy-related research on vaccine production in Africa.

The fellows will also help strengthen evidence-based lobbying initiatives to encourage local vaccine production utilizing Africentric strategies.

Multiple vulnerabilities and deficiencies in the current health systems of various African nations were systematically revealed by the COVID-19 epidemic. It further revealed how unequally Africans have access to vaccines and how dependent they are on the Global North.

Therefore, the Program will concentrate on strengthening African advocacy and research methodologies that strategically improve vaccine production and access in Africa. This program will highlight the significance of upholding African government commitments on vaccine-related research, development, and manufacturing. Under frameworks like the Partnership on African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) framework for Action.

Including going beyond strong commitments and resolutions to actual implementation. The fellows will help analyze planned African pharmaceutical manufacturing interventions including Partnerships for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM) and the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to assess their viability.

It is envisaged that the fellows will spot chances for lobbying to have an impact on how pharmaceutical policies are developed and implemented.

Fellowship Program

Fellows will be equipped to conduct research and engage in impact campaigns with the goal of persuading African states to fund vaccine development and manufacturing.

The Fellowship Programme is scheduled to start in April 2023 and will involve a full-time on-site commitment to Ahaki.

Researchers, academics, virologists, microbiologists, biochemists, and practitioners from all around Africa are urged to submit applications if they are passionate about expanding regional vaccine production and access in Africa.

Personal Information

The applicant must hold a master’s degree or at least five years of experience in one of the following fields: social sciences, law, public health, pharmacy, or any other field related to pharmaceutical policy.

The candidate should have knowledge of pharmaceutical policy research and/or capacity building.

Project management and implementation professional expertise will be advantageous.

PhD candidates are urged to apply as well.

Benefits

· Those who are chosen will get a monthly stipend and participate in all Ahaki research and capacity-building projects.

· For selected candidates, a special lodging or travel requirement may be taken into account.
