State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) in Zanzibar, Tanzania, will host the inaugural coding camp in 2023, and UN Women Tanzania is now accepting applications from qualified girls to attend. The camp will run from February 27 through March 10, 2023.

In order to put at least 2,000 girls in Africa between the ages of 17 and 25 on the correct path for pursuing education and employment in the information, communication, and technology (ICT) sectors, the goal is to empower and teach them to become computer programmers, developers, and designers. Coding camps and incorporating ICT, coding, and gender into national curricula are the initiative’s two main strategies.

 

 

Through the following, the coding camps are closely coordinated with the United Republic of Tanzania (Mainland and Zanzibar).

Benefits

 

The participants chosen after a selection procedure will get the following from the Tanzanian team in charge of carrying out the African Girls Can CODE initiative:

 

·      A 10-day coding course taught in accordance with the AGCCI manual Resources

·      Stationery

·      Transportation to and from the Zanzibar training location Laptop computers to use during and after the training

 

Eligibility

 

 

Those that are interested in the coding camps should:

 

·      Be female, of Tanzanian descent, and between the ages of 15 and 25.

·      Possess a passion for disciplines connected to science, technology, math, and ICT.

·      Possess computer literacy and rudimentary understanding of computer science.

 

Selection Standards

 

In order to be chosen, applicants must:

 

·      Girls under the age of 18 must have formal parental or legal guardian consent in order to join the coding camp. To do this, fill out the application form;

·      Cite a working phone and email address;

·      A letter of submission along with verification of your availability for the 10-day training camp’s duration;

·      Accept to represent AGCCI by expressing your thoughts and experiences in your community or at school.

The deadline for the call for applications is January 20, 2023 at 23:59 EAT (Tanzanian Time).
