In order for a creative and adaptable plant-based way of thinking to develop in the future, the COAL Prize 2023 is inviting artists from all over the world to sow the seeds of creation and action, to germinate fresh research and experiments. (COAL Prize for Artists 2023 (Win 12000 Euros))
This Award is a summons to action, transformation, healing, revival, and hybridization. An appeal for people to experience the diversity of plants, their balances, and dynamics—from the seed to the calyx, from the molecule to the ecosystem. An invitation to try—and, why not, to fail—because progress comes from failure.

· The COAL Prize winner will receive 12,000 euros in addition to living accommodations at the Domaine de Belval, which is owned by the François Sommer Foundation and managed by the academic departments of the Museum of Hunting and Nature and the Domaine de Belval. The Domaine de Belval, which is situated in the French Ardennes community of Belval-Bois-des-Dames, is a true observatory of rural life and wildlife that hosts artists every year who have been chosen for their contributions to the renewal of perceptions of the relationship between people and their natural surroundings.
· The Jury Special Prize winner will receive 3,000 euros.
· The Center Wallonie-Bruxelles/Paris extends an invitation to the NOVA XX mention winner to participate in an exhibition at the worldwide biennial NOVA XX 2023, which will take place from December 2023 to February 2024 both indoors and outdoors at the Center Wallonie Bruxelles in Paris. Stéphanie Pécourt, director of the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles/Paris, founded the international biennial NOVA XX in Brussels in 2017. It is focused on the intersection of art, science, and technology in a feminine and non-binary manner and during the 4.0 age.
· A residency at Clichy-sous-Bois/Montfermeil, in connection with the Bondy regional forest, close to Paris, is awarded to the recipient of the Ateliers Médicis mention. The Ateliers Médicis offer residencies to artists from many disciplines and encourage the development of works that are conceptualized in relation to the regions. They promote or coordinate interactions between artists and locals.
